Or will it just expire on it's own?

Good question...I used to pay it off with my credit card, but last time I renewed it with the pre-paid card. Anyway, I'm letting my gold subscription run out, since I hardly play online...so is it going to renew it from my profile or just run out until I take action?

Ya and if you don't want your card to renew automatically, which means microsoft will charge you for another month of gold on your card. You need to call 1-800-4my-xbox and tell them to turn auto-renewal off. Doing this will turn your membership to silver on the day of your gold account expiriation, so you won't get charged again. That's the only way you can do it I believe, they have to do it for you.

yes it auto renews and they do it that way so they can hound you and make it a hassle while doing it. It took me 15min to cancel my subscription, and before they would cancel it they would keep asking me questions like "why are you canceling your subscription", "you know their are also pre-paid live cards if using a credit card is an issue", "blah blah blah". They could have just as easily made it an option though the dashboard.

you can just do it through the dash under modify membership cant you? or goto http://billing.microsoft.com and cancel your subscription there. once cancelled any remaining days you have paid for will still stand but when it runs out it wont charge you again until you resubscribe or put a code in for a card

Of course, because who wouldn't want to make things more convenient?

Give them your credit card info and that way it'll renew on it's own and you'll never need to worry about it.

Hey guys. If anyone is still wondering how to turn off automatic renewal, this link explains it well: http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/07/29/how-to-turn-off-xbox-live-account-auto-renewal.aspx You can, in fact, take care of it online. There is no need to call customer service. You have to sign in to your account on xboxlive.com and click through a few pages to get to it. If you're already signed in, you can just go here: https://live.xbox.com/en-US/Flows/ManageSubscription/AutoRenewal.aspx First, after you sign in, right under the link to Sign Out on the top right corner, there's a drop down arrow. Click the arrow and choose My Account. Then, on the left side, in the gray box, click on Membership Level. Under the description of your current membership, you'll see the status for Automatic Renewal. It will either be ON or OFF. If it's on, click the word ON. You'll then be able to turn it off. Take note of the "notice" at the bottom about prepaid cards: NOTICE: If you extend your membership by redeeming a prepaid code prior to the expiration of your current subscription, auto-renewal of your subscription will be reactivated. Hope that helps!
