I see Doom 3 BFG listed on the Xbox One's Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list but the Xbox online store on the Xbox.com website, or on the Xbox One's store, neither have options for purchasing the game digitally. Is the backwards compatibility only good for disc based BC only and not for digital rights purchases? Or do you think this is simply glitched? I'd hate for them to not allow for digital acquisition as I definitely want to get this digitally and don't want to do disc based BC.

Okay, from what I can gather, it's disc based BC only... what a shame. They really should have every BC game digitally available.

Damn it looks like you're right, I cannot find it either in the XBLA or DEmand section of the store, tried buying it direct from my 360. That sucks because I was planning on getting it, I never played it last gen but I preordered the new one and was happy to collect all of them, don't think I'll bother now if I cannot get digital. I remember this on the 360, not every game was available digitally like on XOne, but I thought all the BC games would be digital. Oh well, hope this doesn't happen often with future titles

So I have it playing on X1, but no multi-player?

did it ever have MP? I know it should come with a way to play Doom 1 & 2, not sure if accessible through disc or was provided as a downloadable code with original version, but I know those have MP modes, they allow for competitive MP and even up to 4 players via co-op, though it's player hosted so hope your friends are in relative close proximity to cut down on latency

I'm so flabbergasted by this, that's just money slipping through their fingers not making this digital. I don't get it. The game is already certified for the Xbox 360 so it's not like putting this up on the store should cost anything other than the standard 70-30 revenue split, which is probably easier to apply on a digital sales basis than the physical publishing method, which is basically like paying out of pocket on royalties ahead of time based on factors of quantity and its MSRP... so yeah, money slipping through their fingers as this will just push people to buy most likely used copies.

@lamprey263: Yeah its especially irritating considering the fact that even if you own the disc, it still prompts you to download the game file so it is as if the digital version is ready to download, but not on its own. I'm thinking its because of licensing issues because no reason they would keep this disc only....at least we know this won't happen with any XBLA or GWG games since these are always digital.

I'll drop by later to a nearby EBgames/Gamestop, if they have the disc for cheap I might get it. I just want to go through the game once, it irritates me if this would be the only Doom game I miss out on

That doesn't make sense as Alucard pointed out, you still have to download the digital file to play it.

A little update on this....um, predicament. So I wasted 20ish min at an EBgames(the equivalent of Gamestop in Canada) looking through their collection and did not find the game. Best buy was even worse, they hardly had any older games. Looks like Amazon is the best bet and it cost around 15$. I don't know...not sure what I will do.
