1080p is best
720p is next
1080i after that

Is 720p seriously better than 1080i? I mean, the resolution is higher, but I guess it's not progressive. I've checked 720p out before, and I can't honestly see a difference. Maybe it's too subtle to notice. I always run in 1080i because my screen is only 26".

You should'nt notice a big difference on a 26" screen, but 1080i is basically 540p with interlaced black lines. You will be getting a higher pixel-count with 720p
Hey you idiots do know that 720p is only 480p, however stretched (upscaled) out onto a widescreen tv. 720p does not technically exist it was created as a marketing point for Walmart brand televisions and Best Buy. But, I mean if you do think 1080 RESOLUTION!!! is less superior than 720 RESOLUTION, than my friends you are blind. Progressive vs. Interlaced is only an issue with larger tvs or LCD / Plasma. The progressive scan will refresh faster than interlaced and since most LCD's and Plasmas are crap to begin with you do need progressive. Personally you want best picture CRT is still most superior and when the flat panel CRT's come out it's gonna pawn anything in existence....You want good picture look up that technology before people that don't know jack falp their jaws on 720p.KillerC15122
No Offense to this poster, but to the original poster...
Please don't take what this guy is saying to heart - there are so many innacuracies in what he is saying that I'm not even going to waste my time responding. And he calls ALL OF US idiots. Um yeah...
Ok well I have a 42' LCD Sharp aquos with the premium 360. Should I set mine to 720p or 1080i? Will I even notice a difference?MickeyTheNinja
Here's the thing...
Try both settings - it won't hurt anything - and choose which one you like better.
The problem is that each and every set will act differently - even if it's the same model. Sometimes people will notice the vertical scan line move across the screen with interlaced resolutions - this is very annoying. But many TV's the scan line isn't noticeable and 1080i will "appear" to give you better detail.
720p Will be crisp no matter what. No scan lines as there is no scanning - regardless of what TV you have.
Just try both and see which you like better - choose one - play at that res for awhile and if you don't like it - change to the other resolution.
The eternal debate between 720p and 1080i is kind of like asking which is definitively better: Chocolate ice cream or vanilla ice cream?
There's not a set factual spec that defines one as better - it's a matter of opinion.
