Hey guys today I downloaded Call of Duty World at War to my harddrive, and noticed that you still need to put the disk in every time to play it. I can't deny Im a bit confused. What purpose does downloading the game right onto the harddrive serve? Because other than taking up space it has not made it any more convenient to play the game.

You really need to search the forums before posting like this. You need the disc because it's part of the verification process to make sure you actually own the game. However, installing the hard drive, reduces wear and tear on the disc and the disc drive, reduces heat and so will help to lower the possibility of experiencing the RRoD and should in some cases lower the load times.

Why? Because then everyone will pirate games and not buy them.

You are the 2nd person who has asked this in the last 2 days, the installations were only made to decrease load times (and put less pressure on your drive and reduce heat).

Diablo, stupid mother****er. Whats with the spazzing out? I asked a simple question that requires a simple answer and all I get is 4 bitc* answers and one good one. I have contributed plenty to these boards, dont like the crap search engine that gamespot has. Which may I mention barely even works half the time I use it. May I also point out I read that it would be a discless process on... well GUESS WHAT!? GAMESPOT. So sorry if I got a bit confused. I bet I could ask this at IGN without one bad word. If only that site was well structured..

if you didnt need the disc, everyone would rent games, for like £3.50, then upload them to their hard drive... then take them back and have a full game for basically nothing o.O

The main purposes for this is : |1) Reduces load time (by quite a lot) |2) You lose the annoying noise of the disc spining

Yeah, sure. Pirating games is soooo thinking "outside the box". One of the most meaningless and stupidest phrase ever to be invented by mankind.

i dont think the search engine is that bad, i seem to find any information i could need pertaining to gaming and i dont have to post a question that has been answered hundreds of times on these boards and in an actual article that i believe i read here on gamespot, which is not hard to find. thaks for wasting my time though.

People are flipping out on you because threads exactly like this are posted 10 times a day. It gets old after while when you see the same "What's the point in installing games to my hard drive" or "Installing games to hard drive??????" threads constantly.
