Thoughts? What do people think of this game? A must buy or just another RPG?

I thought about buying it until I read about the $7 DLC available the day the game comes out. There is a total of 3 pieces of DLC available at launch (2 free one not) so just imagine how much DLC there will be in a year. It goes down as a rental at first and then I'll see how much DLC comes and if I like it I'll wait for a Gold/GOTY edition.

I think it will be the best rpg until Mass Effect 2. Day 1 buy for me. My only issue is the DnD mechanics. I hate that system and the level 20 cap.

You probably have to purchase DLC for the level cap to increase. I wouldn't be shocked if Dragon Age has $100+ of DLC in the end.

I love BioWare RPGs, and this will be first day buy for me, based on nothing else besides the developer. This will be my third 360 game to buy on day one since the console's release.

Has the potential to be the next Oblivion.pumpkin_king12

Yeah it's just another RPG, another Bioware RPG. The devs track record is top notch & they do nothing but make great games. Dragon Age Origins looks great & I'm sure it will be just so. However I believe I'll be buying it for PC & not for Xbox 360.

I agree that Bioware has an amazing track record, but this is the first game Bioware has developed while being an EA subsidiary for the entire time. Bioware also has never developed three games at a time like they are now. I'm worried that EA spread Bioware too thin with three projects and that Dragon Age will have far too many DLC (opposite of Mass Effect).

I have no doubts that EA will force them to rip us gamers off with DLC, their track record proves that to us. However, even with a smaller team, Bioware, we know for sure that these guys are good at what they do so naturally we should expect their end product to be good.

EA is known for milking gamers for every penny and destroying their subsidiaries. I'm worried about either one of these if not both for Dragon Age. If EA forces Bioware to release $100+ of DLC Bioware's reputation will be forever changed and spreading Bioware too thin for three projects would be the obvious explanation if any of the three aren't fantastic games (Bioware's standard).

I am confident that no matter how good Dragon Age is, people will still find things to nitpick and ***** about, which they will blame on EA. Like if Mass Effect had been released after the EA purchase? Mako: EA's fault. Texture pop-in: EA's fault. Lack of interesting side-quest planets: EA's fault. Can't three-way with Ashley and Liara: EA's fault.

Looks amazing. It's quickly becoming one of my most anticipated games of the year. Both because it looks awesome, and because Bioware has yet to make a game that isn't of AAA quality.

My only issue is the DnD mechanics. I hate that system and the level 20 cap.

Chopmo81

I think that Dragonage is the 1st big Bioware-fantasy title NOT to use the D&D Mechanics. Everything is their own IP this time round. Btw. level 20 is not a set level cap for the D&D system, I think that with Hordes of the Underdark (Neverwinter Nights expansion) you could get as high as level 40.

I guess he's talking about how mechanics are based on the d20 system, 'cause I'm not sure any BioWare RPG had a cap at 20th level.

Id say its a buy for anyone that has played BIOWARES RPG's in the past the game has like 40 hour campaign and up to 80 hours of gameplay including the extra quests and what not. Go buy it or if you havn't played any of biowares rpgs then rent see ow you like it and then decide from there.

Ive got two nit picks here..First id wish people read more about the game..Some of you would realise..A) There not using the d20 meathod..Its there own design, there not streamlined with the dnd ruleset..Atari owns those rights..Also Atari is making there own baldurs gate 3..b) People complaining about dlc, dont buy it day one..Im not, first there is about 120 hours worth of gameplay..After im finished ill buy it, just so i can keep playing a great looking game as dragon age origins..C) Why are you complaining about dlc..They had months of down time, it gave the devs some thing to work on..Instead of doing nothing..They new the game would sell well...Just bye the pre-orders alone..So why not instead of doing nothing..Start making dlc right away..When your done with the game than buy it..No one is forcing you to buy dlc..Its there for a option..Myself i never bothered after fallout 3, to buy any of the dlc...Ill still buy fallout 4 when its done..D) why deprive yourself a epic game like this, with a developer who really cares about there product..The graphics also look great, for people complaining about them also..

Nuff said

First day buy for any rpg fan...

I've heard a lot about the diversity in choice you can make which is the best thing about western RPG's but I'm not sure what the combat system is like. Is it turn based or real-time?

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't both KOTOR's have a cap of 20, along with Neverwinter Nights vanilla. And the DnD system is all based on rolls ect. I've never cared for this system because it doesn't feel as if your character every really gets extremely powerful at the end.

Either way with the exploration, combat, and dialogue system I will not be missing this game. Easily my most anticipated title of the year.

You might be right about Knights of the Old Republic. As for Neverwinter Nights, I never played it without the expansions, which place the cap at 40 or something super high like that.

EDIT: KOTOR II's cap was way higher than 20, but that wasn't a BioWare game anyway.

And the DnD system is all based on rolls ect. I've never cared for this system because it doesn't feel as if your character every really gets extremely powerful at the end.Chopmo81

I don't get what you're saying here. RPGs have always been based on die rolls. Only in the last couple years, have we been seeing action/shooter-RPG hybrids like Mass Effect and Oblivion. If you don't like die rolls in your RPGs, then you don't like most any RPG prior to this generation of consoles.

Most console RPG's are not die roll based. PC games in the past often are though. And I do not prefer this system but it doesn't mean I won't enjoy the game. I enjoyed KOTOR 1 and 2. I have no doubt this game will rock. I would enjoy the game more where certain areas are nearly impossible to explore until your a high level character with good loot.

I guess I didn't really enjoy Oblivion though, scaling monsters is much worse of a scenario in my books.

Most console RPGs in what time frame? What are you defining as an RPG? On an unrelated note, I didn't care for the scaling in Oblivion either.

It's my most anticipated game this year. Game Informer has their review up and they gave it a 9/10, and they are pretty tough when it comes to reviews. It's a throw back to games like Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights, a true hardcore RPG with tons of replayability because of the Origins backstories for each character. It's also got a really mature and dark theme to the overall game and I am counting the days until November 3rd!!!!
