your level 21 and you just asked that? dude whats wrong with you. of course. No 360 game would fit on a single layered dvd even with compression. So yes, yes the 360 has dual layered disks.

I don't have a next-gen console yet, the reason I asked was because GTA IV might be more than one city. A.K.A Vice City and maybe San Andreas. Would that fit?

san andreas used a dual layer disk. San andreas also filled 2/3 of a dual layered disk. so I doubt that Rockstar would even attempt to add another city onto the GTA IV disk.  But they might put it on the marketplace which would be cool.

But that was on ps2 and xbox, this is 360 we are talking here. What is the largest amount of space you can have on a 360 disc?

it doesnt matter. Ps2, xbox, and xbox 360 all use the same disks, which are DVD's. So, a ps2 disk an xbox disk and an xbox 360 disk all have the same amount of storage or space (about 9.4 gigs)

the 360 doesnt use hd dvds for games. It only uses them for movies and can only be used when a separate hd-dvd drive is plugged into and xbox 360. The xbox 360 itself only contains a standard dvd drive.

well what if rockstar made it 2 discs??? i mean it certantly wouldn't be the first time multiple discs were used for one game. so one city could be on one and the other the second. just a thought

You can't have 2 discs for a free roam game. It'd be rather annoying if you had to go somewhere and keep changing the disc around. The game will fit, I don't know what you guys are all worrying about

I backed up San Andreas like a month ago, to give it to my little brother because I didn't want to give him the original game. The game is only 2.9GB

Note that Vice City is in Florida, like Miami and Liberty City is in New York, like New York City.

Thats not a good way to make friends on this forum.

I have an Xbox 360, the only reason I said that is because on the PS3 they would probably be able to make five San Andreas size cities plus country.  On the Xbox 360 they are going to be pushing one or two.  Xbox 360 is seriously dampering GTA IV's potintial.  If they would have stuck with PS3 only, they could have all the creative freedom they want and not have to worry about fitting it on a disc.

The disc size will not effect the game, compression is getting better and better, Saints Row and Oblivion fit onto one disk no problem, the same will be for GTA4, Rockstar would not go ahead if they thought a disk size would be a problem.

If you have a 360 why have you only rated PS2 games and rated them all a 10? I think you have come here to cause an argument more than anything else.

I came here to see if the xbox 360 could handle a game 5 times as big as San Andreas, and apparently not.

Yeah, too bad Oblivion fits on a 4.1 Gigs, which is less than the capacity of one single-layered DVD. Don't be a jerk if you're going to be wrong.

And you shouldn't come into a forum to start arguments.  A dual layered disc gives you what... 9.6 Gigs?  There is no way that they'd have the time to make a game that (when compressed) would take up more than that much space.  Unless they decide to fill the game with CGI cutscenes... that's the only way you can justify Blu-ray.

What the hell are you talking about, GTA4 will be big no doubt but a DVD can fit a hell of a lot of stuff, you just are thinking about it in the wrong way, sounds to me like you have been brainwashed by Blu Ray. There is no need for all that space, GTA4 will not be a problem and will not limit the game.

Yesterday you said (Check the third post in this very thread) "I don't have a next-gen console yet..."

I lied.

If you have a 360 why have you only rated PS2 games and rated them all a 10? I think you have come here to cause an argument more than anything else.

I came here to see if the xbox 360 could handle a game 5 times as big as San Andreas, and apparently not.

It can.

How? A quadruple-layered disc?

What the hell are you talking about, GTA4 will be big no doubt but a DVD can fit a hell of a lot of stuff, you just are thinking about it in the wrong way, sounds to me like you have been brainwashed by Blu Ray. There is no need for all that space, GTA4 will not be a problem and will not limit the game.

I just want to know, could it handle a game 5 times as large as San Andreas?

Well a DVD (not dual-layered) has about five times the space of the CDs used to store last-gen games. A dual-layered disc is twice the size of a DVD. So that's like 10 times the space. You should be able to figure the rest out yourself.

Does it really matter if Oblivion could fit on 1 regular DVD (Which is pretty damn amazing considering how much is in that) than GTA4 will be just fine, leave troll

san andreas used a dual layer disk. San andreas also filled 2/3 of a dual layered disk. so I doubt that Rockstar would even attempt to add another city onto the GTA IV disk.  But they might put it on the marketplace which would be cool.ryanduvall
actually i can tell you that you are completely wrong I will update you later on the actual size, but whenever i backes my game up onto my original xbox it was definately under 9 gigs.

If the game does use more than one disc:

I'd like to see the option of installing game content on the hard drive so that hard drive owners can take advantage. People who don't own hard drives would have to run off discs (and swap occasionally), but hard drive owners could just play with one disc in the drive and run the rest of the content off the hard drive like PC gamers do. This is a pretty common option in a lot of PC games. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible in 360 games.
