i've done a lot of buying and selling on ebay. i've sold 50+ games and never had a problem. i've also bought over 100 items off ebay and, again, never had a problem. as long as you use paypal (and check peoples feedback) you're pretty secure.

I buy and sell all the time on ebay. For expensive things it can be a bit sketchy but I've never had any issues buying/selling games. I just got $50 for Mass Effect yesterday. Couldn't believe it.

There is always a risk, but I have bought some big-ticket items on ebay before. People with a lot of sales and a good reputation are probably a safe bet.

I've bought most of my games from ebay, and all but one went without a problem. The problem I had was with the post, and after a delay of 2 weeks the item arrived safely. For fairly low value transactions I am happy to use it, though I wouldn't trust it enough to buy the actual console.

Look for sellers that have a high feedback rating, with a high percentage of good transactions (look for 97%+ good feedback), and also look for sellers that have been using their account for several years.

The people that scam on ebay use new accounts with low ratings, and suddenly have hundreds of items for sale at a price too good to be true. If someone is selling loads of items, or the same item several times a day and has a low rating be very wary of them. Most sellers are genuine, but in a system based on trust there will always be people trying to abuse it.

I bought a few games from people on Ebay, and all of them turned out fine. Goozex.com is another alternative if you are just interested in games. Goozex is a trading service for video games, and it costs like a $1. I have only done it once, but it worked well.

thanks. But one last question:

What is the best way to make sure you get an item 100%? because ebay is all about bidding and auctioning.

Some items have Buy It Nows (BINs) you end up paying a little more sometimes for a BIN but then you're guaranteed what you want

Bid more than anyone else does 8)

If you want to buy a game, decide how much you want to pay for it and bid that amount shortly before the end of the auction. If you win you get the game, if not you didn't pay more than you wanted, and can bid on the next auction for that game. If you have patience you can get what you want for a price you are happy with.

It's been awhile since I've used ebay but I think the only way you can get an item without bidding on it is if the seller has it marked with a "buy it now" tag which let's you buy the item straight out without bidding on it.

^ There's an option when you're buying items on Ebay called "Buy it Now," it works just like any other retail site where once you commit to the purchase and pay through your Paypal account, the transaction is complete. That's the best way to ensure that you win an item, I don't know much about auction tricks and auto-bid programs but somebody else here might. -- Iron Maiden WILL play Alexander the Great live at SBIT '08

I am going to sound like a total idiot now, but do you need to pay something if you lose a bid or and auction?

No - you pay the seller if you win, not if you lose

I love ebay, I bought my first and second laptops off ebay, my first xbox 360, video games, dvds, and much more. The only issue I ever ran into was a couple weeks ago when my 2 DVDs from an ebay store never came and never heard from the user, but i filed a report against them and hopefully it will get sorted out.

Nice. I am also thinking of maybe getting a laptop from there. It looks like it would not cost to much. Do you know any good sellers to recommend???

eBay is great but every now and then you or a friend can get left with a bitter taste in your mouth i.e not get the goods like they were described. Always look at the feedback. You can tell from that what there like. Some people have a few negative feedbacks but can be for different things. I bought a graphics card for £150 pounds as it was £240 in the shops and its still working 2 years later. If your looking to spend over £100 ($160) check out feedback and see what other people said about the sellers items before you place a bid. Also see what there returns policy is

As for 360 games if its a game you really want buy it from the shops as if something is wrong with it you can swap it for a new one rather than send it back to the guy you bought it off and wait for the money (which can all take weeks).

If your just after achievements buy 2nd hand games on eBay for cheap, thats what I do anyway

As a guy mentioned above he ordered laptops. I looked it up on eBay and there are some great deals. Macbook pro for around 300 dollars or so. I looked at the seller feedback and it was around 99% and the comments he recieved were great. Does it sound safe to order from him/her.

Check what the negative feedbacks were for. If they were for items arriving late etc then it sounds ok. If its because he sold a refurbished laptop as a new one (as an example) then I might be warey. 99% is good for feedback but if he's sold over serveral 1000 items that means a few haven't been what the buyer expected. Also check to see if he has a returns policy i.e if your not happy with the item will he take it back and give you a full refund. Oh and make sure the postal method he is using has cover (insurance) in case the laptop gets damaged or lost
