My friend has a 360 that, may or may not be dying. Everytime it turns on it makes a weird loud sound and sometimes cannot read the disk. He wants to sell it to me for like 20 dollars. For that cheap, should I buy it from him? I'm guessing it's very near its RROD tragedy, but for $20 Idk. What do you think?

my last one did that, been doing it for about 4 months and still going, but takes about an hour to get a disc to play, gets a lot of un-readable disc errors in the middle of games, and has ruined at least 3 games still good for streaming movies, watching movies from flash drives etc.. but thats about it.

Well, if it's under warranty, yes. If not, no.

Wouldn't you feel like a jerk if you bought that from a friend just to get it fixed under warranty though?

He'd keep hounding you to sell it back for $20 again.

But hell yeah I'd do this if I bought a random stranger's console xD

Buy buy buy!

The horrible noise is most likely the dvd drive, possibly the system fan. If the console has never red ringed before its a good console.

Replace the drive with a new one from ebay. Swap the drive keys. Clean it up inside, maybe change the thermal compound. Bobs your unkle a perfecly working console for dirt cheap!

Take it from me I do this kind of thing for a living.

even if it isn't under warranty and it breaks it is $99.99 to fix it, then you get another 1 year warranty, so a (basically) brand new xbox for $120...not bad

I'd do it for $20 but start saving money for a new one. You can also borrow some of his games so the whole package would be a deal doing that.
