Explore some of the caves, castles, you can find nice weapons/armor in them.

Since you've joined all 3 guilds, it would pretty easy to make money in the Thieves Guild as you can sell stolen items.

Also, what I did in some of my games, was pick up a lot of items like books, retorts and Mortar & Pestle (from the mage's guild), and weapons and armor from the fighter's guild and sell all these items to vendors. You can rack up a lot of cash right away doing this.

A good item to get early in the game is a helmet called Fim Gleam. It's to the west of Anvil. It's underwater and located here.

For combat, I agree with what many have suggested. Just find some small caverns or Forts to explore to help you get your combat/magic/stealth skills up (which ever you decided to major your skills in). Every journey has to start somewhere :) I hope these tips help you out.

if you are only level 2 then you wont find any decent armour either in shops or as loot - because items and enemies are scaled to your level in this game. at level 2 all you are likely to find is rusty iron equipment.

the main quest is also scaled to your level. so my recommendation is to concentrate on the main quest without doing ANY side quests. if you level up too much before tackling the main quest it gets quite hard because your AI teammates (e.g. martin) dont level up with you so the oblivion monsters will eat them for breakfast. and seeing as you need to keep martin alive on a particular mission i really recommend doing the main quest first.

once you have completed main quest you will be around lv 10 with some nice stuff and skills. you can then go adventuring without worrying about getting creamed by the denizens of cyrodil. the game is much more fun that way around - my 2nd and subsequent play throughs were all like this. it seems illogical i know, but trust me on this one

Read the posted FAQs on this website; especially read the ones on leveling. They are quite long but key to maximizing your character's abilities.

At the early stages of the game you can just buy armor from the armor store in the Imperial City. Once you have some descent gear go out and wonder around killing anything that gets in you way. Wonder around the Imperial City it's the easiest as far as enemies. Once you get up a few levels you'll be ready for the guild quests.

Another thing you can try is doing some of the main storylines quests. The first ones are pretty easy and will level you up pretty quickly.

Really you just have to get out there and explore.

If you want to get up some levels I would recommend going to the Arena in the Imperial City, you also earn quite a bit of gold. I wouldn't do the Dark Brotherhood if I was you because you usually end up killing someone in a guild and getting suspended and you then have to give them like 20 bear hides and a whole lot of stuff that takes hours to find. For a beginner, it is almost necessary to get the Sheleton Key, you obtain this by completing the Nocturnal Shrine, it is pretty much a lockpick that doesn't break. Train up on your armourer skill aswell, it is always needed when you get to the higher levels because your weapon gets damaged in every battle. Those are just some things.

I can't quite remember (how to get the house) but I think you talk to the person in the palace. (maybe, I haven't played it in a few months).

I just started playing this game and have been underleveling. Or not jumping to the next level right away. More working on your main skills to try to max them out before making the jump. And since everyone is scaled to your level, it makes all the fights a ton easier than being level 10 and realizing your char isn't strong enough or you don't have the right gear. I've already closed 4 gates at level 4. Sometimes it takes sheer running as opposed to fighting, but it gets it done.

When I first started I stuck with the mainquest line and closed an Oblivion gate at level 2...it worked for me, not sure if it will work for you, but I leveled up pretty quickly after that.

do the first theieves guild mission to get in the guild then goto the village where the fence is in olavs inn and just raid everyones house and goto the inn then fence it until you reach the amount you need to unlock every thieves quest. i think its 1500 you need to fence you can do it all in one game seshon easily, dont let the gurads arrest you when you get sussed just run away and resist arrest and keep raiding houses and fencing then it saves stealing inbetween quests

just play through and level up for a while before taking on anything too dificult and also remember that you can change the games dificulty from the pause menu. also, some armour is unavailable until you are a certain level.

Train by exploring caves and ruins. Just remember to bring some health potions. The Thieves Guild has a less chance of dying on quests, so I would recommend you do them first.

I just finished the Arena in 12 in game hours, becoming the Grand Champion, getting over 6000 gold and over 100 achievement points. I started at level 2 and finished at level 3, close to 4.

the only tip i can give you is this : go to any city , then look for a guard that is completely alone without any other guard around , kill him , then take his armor, sword and shield, go to any place in the city that you know well like for example near one of the gates leading outside, drop everything you carry, then get caught by the guards and when you get released just go the place that you dropped your items at and retrieve them, it sure helped me a lot :)

PS: make sure that the guard is holding a sword and not a bow and has an armor that looks like this. if you want a city that has that kind of guards then just go to the imperial city , it's the rounded one in the middle.

Instead of killing a guard, just do the Kvatch quest (main questline) and one of the legion guards dies and you just take all his armour and your protection will be about 24 if you have it all on (the armours protection depends on your level, I was level 2 or 3).

I can't say I agree with you on this one. I actually tackled pretty much all of the guilds before taking on the Main Quest. I did all the guilds, and trained a bit, and once I started the main quest, my character was a level 27, and pretty much demolished everything. I didn't even need to do the defense for bruma quest, I just fended everything off by myself. It's better to be at a high level, because then you have access to a large variety of spells, armor, and your weapons are much more powerful.

I did the main quest around level 15 or 20 and the monsters were kind of hard but Martin never died (but at the end almost everyone did).

Spoilers

the cowl of nocturnal from the thieves guild can help a lot with running thorugh oblivion gates

Level up??? Have any of you even played the game? The game scales with you. You can do anything right from the start. Go to the menu and then to gameplay. Adjust the slider to the left to make it easier.

Levelling is from making your skills go up. If you stick with a low level, low level enemies will do a ton of damage on you, and you won't have the health or magic to help heal yourself unless you're carrying loads of potions which nobody wants to do. The game is easy enough with the save as much as you want feature. No need to make it any easier. The game is much more enjoyable to play at higher levels since you have access to more inventory.

Just walk around and visit all the cities..if you talk to the citizens they always have something interesting to tell you.

As for weapons and armor..stalk up on potions and go exploring in caves..youll always find something cool

Well pretty much what everyone is saying. I would suggest at least advancing a little in the main quest before starting the sides. Also, I kept getting stuck and at one point i gave up, but then i remembered you could lower the difficulty because it actually is pretty hard, and it might sound like cheating but i lowered the difficulty and its easier to get by.

As far as money goes, basically search everyone you kill and pick up everything you see. Careful about the stealing though.:D And when you do steal items, sell them in the thieves guild. As far as armor i believe i found mine, but there are also decent shops in about every town.

Oblivion is a great game once you get going.
