Since you've joined all 3 guilds, it would pretty easy to make money in the Thieves Guild as you can sell stolen items.
Also, what I did in some of my games, was pick up a lot of items like books, retorts and Mortar & Pestle (from the mage's guild), and weapons and armor from the fighter's guild and sell all these items to vendors. You can rack up a lot of cash right away doing this.
A good item to get early in the game is a helmet called Fim Gleam. It's to the west of Anvil. It's underwater and located here.
For combat, I agree with what many have suggested. Just find some small caverns or Forts to explore to help you get your combat/magic/stealth skills up (which ever you decided to major your skills in). Every journey has to start somewhere :) I hope these tips help you out.
if you are only level 2 then you wont find any decent armour either in shops or as loot - because items and enemies are scaled to your level in this game. at level 2 all you are likely to find is rusty iron equipment.
the main quest is also scaled to your level. so my recommendation is to concentrate on the main quest without doing ANY side quests. if you level up too much before tackling the main quest it gets quite hard because your AI teammates (e.g. martin) dont level up with you so the oblivion monsters will eat them for breakfast. and seeing as you need to keep martin alive on a particular mission i really recommend doing the main quest first.
once you have completed main quest you will be around lv 10 with some nice stuff and skills. you can then go adventuring without worrying about getting creamed by the denizens of cyrodil. the game is much more fun that way around - my 2nd and subsequent play throughs were all like this. it seems illogical i know, but trust me on this one
At the early stages of the game you can just buy armor from the armor store in the Imperial City. Once you have some descent gear go out and wonder around killing anything that gets in you way. Wonder around the Imperial City it's the easiest as far as enemies. Once you get up a few levels you'll be ready for the guild quests.
Another thing you can try is doing some of the main storylines quests. The first ones are pretty easy and will level you up pretty quickly.
Really you just have to get out there and explore.
I can't quite remember (how to get the house) but I think you talk to the person in the palace. (maybe, I haven't played it in a few months).
the only tip i can give you is this : go to any city , then look for a guard that is completely alone without any other guard around , kill him , then take his armor, sword and shield, go to any place in the city that you know well like for example near one of the gates leading outside, drop everything you carry, then get caught by the guards and when you get released just go the place that you dropped your items at and retrieve them, it sure helped me a lot :)
PS: make sure that the guard is holding a sword and not a bow and has an armor that looks like this. if you want a city that has that kind of guards then just go to the imperial city , it's the rounded one in the middle.
Just wurk on yo major skills alot seriously i was a lv. 27 argonian and it took mr 16 months 2 get there

Here just try to do this here. Gives you Umbra Sword and Armor. Some of the most powerful in the game.

I can't say I agree with you on this one. I actually tackled pretty much all of the guilds before taking on the Main Quest. I did all the guilds, and trained a bit, and once I started the main quest, my character was a level 27, and pretty much demolished everything. I didn't even need to do the defense for bruma quest, I just fended everything off by myself. It's better to be at a high level, because then you have access to a large variety of spells, armor, and your weapons are much more powerful.
I did the main quest around level 15 or 20 and the monsters were kind of hard but Martin never died (but at the end almost everyone did).

the cowl of nocturnal from the thieves guild can help a lot with running thorugh oblivion gates
Level up??? Have any of you even played the game? The game scales with you. You can do anything right from the start. Go to the menu and then to gameplay. Adjust the slider to the left to make it easier.subyman
Levelling is from making your skills go up. If you stick with a low level, low level enemies will do a ton of damage on you, and you won't have the health or magic to help heal yourself unless you're carrying loads of potions which nobody wants to do. The game is easy enough with the save as much as you want feature. No need to make it any easier. The game is much more enjoyable to play at higher levels since you have access to more inventory.
Well pretty much what everyone is saying. I would suggest at least advancing a little in the main quest before starting the sides. Also, I kept getting stuck and at one point i gave up, but then i remembered you could lower the difficulty because it actually is pretty hard, and it might sound like cheating but i lowered the difficulty and its easier to get by.
As far as money goes, basically search everyone you kill and pick up everything you see. Careful about the stealing though.:D And when you do steal items, sell them in the thieves guild. As far as armor i believe i found mine, but there are also decent shops in about every town.
Oblivion is a great game once you get going.
