dont worry, those who dont under stand resolutions will always say things like that... all we can do is try and educate people.
as far as pixels go, it brakes down like this
480i is 640 x 480 interlaced = 307200 pixels at 30hz
720p is 1280 x 720 progressive = 921600 pixels at 60 hz
1080i is 1920 x 1080 interlaced = 2073600 pixels at 30 hz, and of course 1080p is same pixels at 60 hz
interlaced means it draws half the picture at a time, hence the slower refresh rate, it goes odd then even, while progresive loads each line in sequense hens the fast refresh, basicly interlaced leaves fast changing pictures lookin a little soft and dull, while interlaced brings it in crisp and sharp, pixel numbers just determine how fine the details can be drawn. thats it in a nut shell.
