This Christmas I'm getting a 360. I've asked about the premium vs. elite and the answers were divided as one would expect. I'm still not sure but basically I've decided that if I get the elite, that's what I would have, the elite. But if I get the premium I'llalso get the HD DVD player for the 360. Do you guys think getting an elite is worth giving up the HD DVD player. How good do HD DVD's look, I've never seen one in action. I have a 61" DLP 720p or 720i, I don't know which. What do you guys think?

I would definitively go for the Xbox 360 Elite. I don't see the point with HD-DVD, yet... We don't know if it is HD-DVD or Blu-Ray which going to win the disc format war, so therefore I would stick with the marketplace solution (where you can rent movies in High-def). And since the Xbox 360 Elite have an 120GB hard disk you can store many movies/tv series on it.
I think your DLP has 720p, which is the most common.

I think you will be very happy with your Xbox 360 purchase regardless if you pick the Elite or the Premium+hd-dvd!

elite = bigger hdd...

i would rather get an HD player than getting more memory i will never use.

edit: on second thought your tv only goes to 720? then the HDD add on is worthless for you to get. if you had a 1080 screen the HD dvd add on would have been more worthwhile.

depends on what you're mainly going to do with the 360.

Go for the hd-dvd player ...absolutely. You can always get another harddrive in the future, if you really need it. Once you watch hd-dvd movies you wont want to watch anything else if you can help it.

Why is that? I have 720 and I love the HD DVD add on is great and love it. Not to mention many places like best buy are doing the get heros season 1 and two other HD DVD's free with it as well so. Not sure why you and so many think 1080 is the end all be all as many have stated if your tv is under 50" you can not tell a strong differance in visual quailty.

Yeah, see I'm thinking that it might be too soon to get an HD DVD player, but I'm not sure how much downloading I'd do since my girlfriend works at Blockbusterand she gets tons of free rentals. Also, since my TV is only 720, I'm wondering if you're right and there wouldn't be much difference between HD and regular DVD's. Maybe I'll just get the elite and some games or something. Thanks for the input.

you can get the HD dvd player later for cheaperthan the new HDD.

like other people had said HD dvd is not a standard (or may never be)

so go elite.

as for the person who asked me why i didnt think the HD dvd player was worth it n a 720. because you dont see 120dollars worth of effects on a 720p/i screen. if your going to get a hd player to get its worth you should use it on a 1080i/p screen.

Meh... go for the Elite. The 360 up-converts DVDs (as long as you use VGA or HDMI) anyway, which is good enough for me.

I think HD-dvd is dying, which would make your purchase of an HD-dvd a waste of money. I would just get a premium that has HDMI inputs, and spend the cash you save on games.

HD-DVD is not dying. Seriously ...what you said is just not right at all.

i have both the elite and the hd dvd add-on. and my opinion is go with the hd-dvd player. hd dvd looks great on a 720p tv. there is a big differance from a hd dvd and an up converted dvd.plus i have most of my memory left on my elite

Wow, lots of advice from both sides of the table on this one. But it seems like no matter what one chooses to go with, it'll be awesome. Thanks for all the info/advice guys.
