AH hahaha none of you even have a clue as to what HDMI 1.3 is do you?
HDMI 1.3:
Increases bandwidth to 340mhz
Supports 30, 36, 48 bit color processors (current TV's have about a 14-16 bit).
Allows billions of colors to be shown rather than millions
supports Dolby true-HD and DTS-HD
Â
Ok big whoop, wanna know the list of TV's that currently support HDMI 1.3?
ZERO
That's right, you heard it here first.
The first lines of TV's that are going to support 1.3 will PROBABLY (it isn't concrete)be the XBR4 series and MAYBE (although doubtful) the Samsung 81f series. Wanna know the retail on those babies? Well, the XBR4 at 40" is probably gunna run you close to 4 grand, the 46 could cost you 5-5500. You wanna pay that much for something that "pops" a LITTLE bit more?
It's great the PS3 supports 1.3, I'm all for it, but I only have 2 thousand to spend on a new TV, and HDMI 1.2 looks just fine to me, and I've stared at so many TV screens I could puke.
EDIT: I forgot one more thing, 1.3 allows you to display at 1440p. You wanna talk useless? The only TV's that support 1440p are over 70" and if they were to hit stores today would retail at over 75,000 dollars. But hey, the average-joe consumer wants the best don't they Sony?Â
There's not really a huge difference between 1.2 and 1.3, but all these people saying that there isn't a difference between HDMI and VGA or HDMI and Component (!?), you're just wrong. The pictures are brighter and sharper with HDMI... you can definitely tell the difference, though I wouldn't go so far as to say that I recommend spending another $480 for it. But if your TV has an HDMI input and you don't have a 360 yet, you'd be a fool to not get the Elite.
You guys obviously are not into home theater. 1.3 is needed for the new lossless audio formats (since there is no chance that the 360 will add 5.1 analog outputs) and anyone with a high end home theater knows that the new lossless audio formats simply cannot be beat. Granted this means nothing for games. But without the new lossless audio formats the 360 cannot be taken seriously as an HD-DVD player.JanetJack_basic
HDMI 1.3 is not required for lossless audio.Â
