if this istrue, this is HUGEEEE. this is not really a "hardware failure discussion topic" for the sticky because it relates to every 360 in the world, and probably everyone in this forum right now!

i don't have the 3 red light problem, so i cannot get mine fixed?? Microsoft better think again. mine crashes every day and Microsoft knows why.

Guess what buddy, all consoles crash. Just be greatful you didn't have to send it away and pay.

I don't care if my console is defective, it does the job and doesn't complain.

ms reinburshed(sp) everyone that had to pay to have there console fix and added the 3 year warranty. so yes they partly fixed the solution. a good goal would if the halo 3 themed 360's get rrod then u know there is something wrong. so a console like that would be something to watch and see if ms has fixed teh solution. some think they should recall the console. but they wont because that would cost them way to much and i dont remember an actual console being recalled, parts have but not a whole thing. and it would be really hard and time consuming to recall the console. look at all the great games coming what happens if they recall the system. they have to guarentee that the newly shipped ones dont get rrod for the consumers. its not gonna happen.

you do realize how significant this is tho right? every single xbox 360 put into production and sold has been made with a known defect that causes it to function incorrectly and fail. i don't know if i can put it any more clearly.

and another thing, my 360 crashes every single time i play it, at random times. it may be within the first 5 minutes of playing, it may be 30 minutes in. it crashes, and continues to crash, up to the point where it is no longer worth playing and investing time, becuase i am spending more time restarting and booting up and loading, then playing. it is unplayable, don't you think that is a problem? and do you know what microsoft said? send it in and we'll send you the large bill, thankyou for your 3+ hours of time, bye.

so yeah i kinda do need to send it away if i ever want to play halo 3. and some games, such as rainbow 6 vegas, crash within the first cutscene everytime. that's 60 bux there wasted. it kinda sucks

now i'll stop complaining about my system, becasue that is off topic and besides the point, and should probably be in the sticky. i'm just trying to give you an example

yeah, but they don't reinburse or fix for free, the consoles like mine, who don't have the 3 red ring problem. aren't they only doing it for that single issue?

Got the elite plus 10% off for singnig up for a target credit card, The elite is kind of quieter than the old one plus it's a lot colder when playing for 10H streight living it for the night and letting that driver in forza get the credits =]] + its always cold in my basement...

Hah, I took apart my gaming area in order to clean, when I put it back together I turned on my xbox and it was giving me the three red lights. I started to panic. I had the sheets in my closet, right? I have a shovel in my garage...it's only 10 minutes to the nearest woody area to bury the body.... But in the end I just didn't properly plug the power cord in. Much to do about nothing.

Whoa dude take a chill break for a second here, it ain't the end of the world. Man you sound like every 360 is set to blow up and start a nuclear conflict or something.. I should know every 360 is defective since I went through 4 460's in 6 months

Just becouse there is some flaw in the 360s construction doesnt mean they will fail, they might they might not. My console works perfectly (except for it freezing up during loading of one race in Forza 2...but that later turned out to be my fault, i dropped the dvd and it got a tiny but kinda deep scratch...eh clumsy clumsy) since the day I bought it so I dont care if its run by a hamster running in his little wheel and that hamster might get a heart attack in the next few months.

Do you guys not remember blowing on the Nintendo cartridge to get it to play, or how about the famous PS2 disk read errors. Consoles have problems. Has your computer ever frozen? Did you know the 360 is pretty much a high end computer? Calm down people. The original poster sounds like he had a mental break down.

..the famous PS2 disk read errors...sickface

Painful memories and a lot of wasted money there.

To the OP- chill. Like everyone else said, it's not a gauranteed failure. I know a lot of people that have release consoles that are still working fine. Besides, if you don't have the three red rings then you kind of just have bad luck, as the that specific problem was what the defect was concerning and not necessarily "crashes" as far as I understood.

Damn I remeber a few summers where my PS1 would over heat and then I'd stick it in the freezer, pull it back out and game for the next 5 or so hours with just demos!

Sounds like some of you are overly optomistic about ur precious 360 and some are overly pesamistic. I say ya get what ya pay for and itz MS yadda yadda yadda! Honestly coming from a Sony fan if u love 360 that much then good but ya have to admit thats pretty F*** up MS would knowingly do this to their fans just to be 1st out tha gate.

Now before ya'll go on bout trolling or WTF i'd just as pissed if i were a Sony fan in a pal territory! I think they are getting the shaft out of all this nextgen gaming with prices, titles selections, release dates ect. But I still do intend to buy a 360 just can't decide when!

"Microsoft has admitted that every one of the 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles sold in the past 19 months suffers from a design flaw that could cause the device to fail."

Yanno, I could say that anyone said something but who would believe me with out actually showing they said it? I'm tired of these threads.

We all know there's a hardware issue. We all know MS basically admitted that there was a problem when the extended warranty was announced. And we all know MS is doing something about it.*shrugs*

Maybe it's because he can't afford any games for it after paying it off...oh wait, what games?

retarded idiots. Thats what happens when you try to get a jump on the competition. When my next xbox breaks they better send me a BRAND NEW 360 without the design flaw. MS consists of a bumch of retards. A shame this console has games i wanna play, otherwise i would of got rid of this garbage box back in january when i got my ps3.

i've had my Xbox and PS2 for 3-4 years now and i havn't had a single problem with either of them, i've had my 360 for about 4 months now and it has been working fine (the occasional freeze but pretty much fine), my point is the 360 makes me feel like i'm playing with a time bomb, it hasn't broken yet but it realy is only a matter of time right?

Both articles clearly state, that all 360s have the potential to break down, because they were all built with the same defect, not they will all break down. Microsoft has the 3 year warranty now rather then recall all the consoles, because not all of them will break tomorrow, they might fail but you can get it fixed for free, so by the time their 3 years is up hopefully they will fix the problem.

This are the same 'news' as the offical 3-year-warranty announcemt, just worded differently and in a bad sensationalist manner. You can take every single news item that gets published, strip the information out and re-package it differently. The info stays the same. The conclusion some 'journalists' draw are beyond stupid.

All consoles have had there share off problems.......But this is the first console I've heard of that has this bad and wide spread of a problem.Yes you had to blow on Nintendo cartridges to get them to work but that isn't till the cartridges got dirty.Sony had disc problems on the launch console NOT EVERY ONE though.I think that was becuse of a faulty plastic gear. The Xbox had disc read problems to.The first oneI bought 2 yrs after the release had disc read problems on the first day. Itook it back got another one that one worked.I think that one was called the Thomson's drive defect because that's the company that made the bad drives. So yes other console have had problems but Microsoft seems to be having more then anyone Else.

Read it carefully, and please tell us where dio you read "oh my god, this so huge, the world is doomed, oh my god... every 360 is the devil, oh so devil!!!:

Open Letter From Peter Moore

To our Xbox Community:

You've spoken, and we've heard you. Good service and a good customer experience are areas of the business that we care deeply about. And frankly, we've not been doing a good enough job.

Some of you have expressed frustration with the customer experiences you have had with Xbox 360; frustration with having to return your console for service after receiving the general hardware error message on the console.

The majority of customers who own Xbox 360 consoles have had a terrific experience from their first day, and continue to, day in and day out.But when anyone questions the reliability of our product, or our commitment to our customers, it's something I take very seriously.

We have been following this issue closely, and with on-going testing have identified several factors that can cause a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights on the console. To address this issue, and as part of our ongoing work, we have already made certain improvements to the console.

We are also implementing some important policy changes intended to keep you in the game, worry-free.

As of today, all Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty program to address specifically the general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and previously-sold consoles. While we will still have a general one year console warranty (two years in some countries), we are announcing today a three-year warranty that covers any console that displays a three flashing red lights error message. If a customer has an issue indicated by the three flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of charge-including shipping-for three years from the console's purchase date.We will also retroactively reimburse any of you who paid for repairs related to problems indicated by this error message in the past.In doing so, Microsoft stands behind its products and takes responsibility to ensure that every Xbox 360 console owner continues to have a fantastic gaming experience.

If we have let any of you down in the experience you have had with your Xbox 360, we sincerely apologize. We are taking responsibility and are making these changes to ensure that every Xbox 360 owner continues to have a great experience.

This will take a few days to roll out globally, and I appreciate your continued patience as we launch this program.I've posted an FAQ that should address some additional questions, and we'll update it over the next few days.

I want to thank you, on behalf of all us at Microsoft, for your loyalty.

Peter Moore

And again, this is only such a lame "puch line" because the console is the best thingsince PS2 that happened to us video-gamers, if it was some other console you bet nobody would notice.

My 360 works fine, since 2nd December 2005, and I'll continue to play every single day, thank you very much.

Microsoft needs to bite a big bullet and recall the systems. Either that, or they need to extend a longer warranty than 3 years.

Mine has worked fine since the day i got it. (1/5/05) The only console i ever had problems with was PS2, I went through 2 new ones and 3 refurbished ones. My old NES and SNES still work....

I agree with born2runak, a 3 year warranty is not long enough. If the system is infact defective, the system should be put on a 6 year warranty. The warranty should be valid until newer stronger systems are invented. What happens after three years and our defective units break? Were forced to buy a new one, because the 360 will only have reached half its life. That to me is unfair. MS released the 360 too early and did not go through the design flaws close enough, and the price they should pay should definately be more than an extended 2 year warranty.
