Basically i bought an Xbox off ebay(yes i know), months pass, game hours fly by and everything is just peachy. However, the other day, just randomly without warning I get the 3 red rings of death. I have done nothing out of the ordinary and treated it with the greatest respect (note: is was in mint condition when i bought it). So my question is simply what the hell do I do? I'm not going to buy another one, afterall this issue is clearly microsoft's fault. But...because I bought it second hand, I assume I am not covered by warranty?

If the case is that microsoft will do nothing for me then I will never (and i mean never) buy any microsoft product every again. They create a notoriously faulty machine and do nothing...pathetic. Anyway, maybe i'm jumping the gun. Any advice is most welcome.

yeah i never mistreated the 5 or 6 xboxs i got that i had to send back since feb 06 in so you didnt get ripped off on ebay if youre afraid of that (i bought a cooler for less than 20 bucks and have had the current one for a year with no problems)

it might be worth contacting the guy who you bought the xbox from to see if hes willing to dig up a receipt for you to collect on your warantee, which might have expired. but yeah otherwise you will have to pay.

I bought a second hand 360 and it died on me. Called microsoft and they just transferred the warranty to me. They didnt need a receipt or anything. Just give them a call I bet they will fix it no problem.

Oh and be prepared to be patient with the phone rep, they're not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Honestly, you should of known by now that Xbox has had faulty systems and that being said, buying second hand off ebay wasn't a smart choice considering that your not covered at all. Bottom line..your fault.

go to youtube and search 360 towel trick, ive had 2 360's and its worked for both of them, its a temporary fix and the red ring will come back, but you can get a few more days or weeks of use out of your 360 as long as it works, fyi with one of my 360's it took 2 tries for it to work

Depending on who you got it from off of Ebay, you may have a warranty with the company that sold it to you. Check the listing, or send them an e-mail in regards to what happened. Ebay will also force them to return your money if there was nothing said that it is a faulty machine, and especially if they have a 30-day guarantee. Otherwise, check on the back of the box - there is a sticker that has a date on it by the "serial number." Since that date hasn't expired yet, and if you have a proof of purchase, Microsoft will fix it free of charge. It takes roughly a week to process.
