Yea, apparently there is someway to do it, I need to figure it out too. Thinking of selling my PS3, and right now its acts as my Media hub, one can plug in an external hard drive and start playing movies and listening to music. I did it earlier with my 360, but one has to stream the files from their computer through media center, however, there is supposed to be a plug and play method as well, and I need to find out how if I can ever sell my ps3.

Yes it is possible, you need format your external hard drive into a FAT32. Note that you can only put your music on it, no downloaded stuff on the marketplace ie movies and demos. Also note for the OP that movies for the marketplacce are only rentals so you download them have 24 or 48 hours to watch and then won't work anymore so its not you will be collecting a lot of those, though tv shows can be kept. Obviously you will erase the demos eventually so that will free up space and even putting music on your system won't take up that much space.

Honestly if you are really that concerned with it your best bet would be upgrade your 360's hard drive either to the 60GB or 120GB. In which is almost guaranteed you will need one of these bigger hard drives when the new live comes out on the 19th if you want to use the ability to download games to play off hard drive.

hi i recently had this same problem with the HDD not showing up. it took me a while to find but you need to get a program called Swissknife. format the entire drive for FAT32 and you should be good to go. I tried formatting this in XP with Disk Management, Partition Magic, and even got Macdrive and formatted it in HFS+, but no luck. there was one guy that suggested using this program and it is the only thing so far to work. good luck!

i am using a 500GB seagate external works great!
