I was just about to post a poll for this exact same topic, kinda wish you wouldve added a poll but oh well.
I initially was leaning toward fallout 3 because oblivion is probably my favorite game all-time, but then i remembered how attached i was to fable 1, and had it have been longer it would be my number 1 instead of oblivion. With the addition of being able to have kids and a dog in fable 2, and more things to do in the game i truly think fable 2 is going to be the game you sincerely become attached to and never want to leave.
I dont see fallout 3 as being a game that makes you love it, you may have become addicted to oblivion like i was and put in over 100 hours, but i never felt attached to the game and like it was part of my life. Fable however brings you into its world and you really feel like you are that character and its really the only game in the history of gaming to bring that feeling.
You know when you are walking through a town and you hear the school boys chant "look its maleficus, slayer of dragons" and you feel a sense of pride/accomplisment and its just really cool. Well now that you are able to have a dog that follows you around and is completely loyal and a wife and children that you can come back to i really think that fable 2 could be the best game of all time, not just the best rpg.
If fable 2 can take the core elements of fable 1 and improve them and mainly make the whole experience longer it is very plausible that it could be the best game ever. This may sound like im some fruit, but you cant deny that you grew attached to the original fable, assuming you were good and not bad.
Im really excited for both games, but fallout 3 i dont think will have the heart that fable has, and so i think fable 2 wins.

The VATS systems is completely optional, and, honestly, is in the game to satisfy the hardcore Fallout fans as that is how Fallout 1 and 2 could be played (for more AP points per shot).
That being said if I had to buy only one, it'd probably be Fable 2, but I'm certainly getting both.
I would pick Fallout 3
I am surprised looking at this post. I was very disappointed with the first Fable so I am not very interested in the second one. I felt that is was was too linear. I was also let down by how short it was and it did not feel groundbreaking in any way like it was supposed to be. I will admit that I appear to be in the minority though.
i felt kinda the same way, people talk about getting sucked into the gameplay, but that didn't happen to me, i never even finished the game because i just got sick of it, but Fable 2 looks to be much improved thoughI would pick Fallout 3

you have got to get out more lol... =)
Besides that i am going to most likely be picking up both. Ive liked all the Fallout games and i liked Fable. It would be to hard to choose for me.
I saw Fallout 3 and Fable 2 on E3
The first time I saw Fallout 3 there was not enough action, but then later after seeing it over and over again it looked better and better.
The first time I saw Fable 2 it was just like a second life, but once again I was proved wrong and and there was a lot of action.
I am only getting Fable 2, because it is more of my type of game, but if you like a do what ever you want shooter than get Fallout 3.
