I think the first part (episode) is free and the rest you have to pay whatever amount of MPs.

i believe it is a new strategy for Microsoft to get people buy games on marketplace. by breaking up a game in any amount of parts and giving you the first one for free. This allows you to play the actual game and try get hooked on the story so you will buy the rest. Unlike a demo that take a part out of a random spot in the game just to show u gameplay vs 1/5 part gameplay, story and make it feel like your getting a part of a game free. if i was person who is willing to buy a game full retail price on the marketplace this would be nice thing depending on price(hopefuly it price of all parts don't go over the retail price) because i get to play the real game before i buy vs a random spot in the game. But good thing that i'm not a stupid person willing to pay full price for just data. When i can easy go store pay same price get case and disk and booklet and maby a poster for same price and still have option to resale it.

That is pretty interesting. I wonder what other games are doing this, if any at this time.

I think just Fable II right now, most likely using it to see if the idea should be implemented in force.

ya but i'm sure this will be one to games that microsoft owns first and fast. i can see halo 3 going up there soon. i'm surprised that halo 2 isn't up there yet . i think the ideal work as long as they keep price the same or less then retailer. 1 part is better then a demo

not sure i have aready played fable 2 and downloaded the part to see whats up. i wouldn't see why not because it's not classified as a demo. you would only get 50gs or so out of first part anyways and since people try get as much gs out game they can this could also tie into the strategy to get you buy

You get the first part free and the other 4 parts are $10 a piece. It's really a good deal.

Unless you're being sarcastic, that's not a good deal at all. Amazon sells the game for 28 dollars and Play has it listed for 23,50 euros.

Huh... Interesting concept to break it down into 5 parts. Must be some new hook to reel people in.

MS and the word "free" should never ever be on the same sentence.

Molyneux himself talked about 'demoing' games like this is a more proper way. Looks like MS took it to heart rather fast.

You have to buy the next 4 parts to unlock achievements, at least thats according to in game. I reached an achievement and it said I need to purchase the second part of Fable II for the achievement to be unlocked. What I'm weary about is that part II isn't on live yet; so I'm not sure if all the achievements just automatically unlock when you download it when its up on XBL or if you'll have to replay thru them or what.....

Only once you buy part 2. I just played it last night. I dropped 2 hours running around going everywhere that dumb gold line told me not to go. It was pretty fun I suppose, but I'm not buying it until the platinum hits comes out next month that will have all the DLC on it. I waited this long, what is one more month?

try the free download, If you like it then buy it on disc. It's cheaper (as someone already mentioned) and it will save some space on your hard drive. Fable should take about 2-6 GB, its a big game!

Part 2 has to be downloaded before the achievements unlock, not just purchased. Its a really ghetto system; you can buy part II thru the game, but it doesn't show up on live.

Where are you at exactly? You can even get the limited edition for $30 on amazon. And walmart had it for $30 where I'm at... though their online store saying $40. GameStop has it for $25 or $30.

I think this way of doing it is great - you get to try a decent chunk of the full game for free, and can decide if you want to buy it or not. I certainly won't buy it through the download service because it costs so much more than getting the GOTY disc version, but it is likely to get me hooked on a game I was already interested in getting. I hope more game follow this example and try unusual things like this

The episodic content seems pointless. It's better to just by the game or the GOTY edition on a disc for a cheaper price.

Games cost the same here as anywhere else, I dunno if you happen to live in Nunavut or something, that would make sense having games cost more up there just because its so near impossible to get anything up there, but down here in normal canada paying $40 for 4 parts of a game that retails for $40 new, and as little as $20 used is in fact a rip-off. That's MS for you though trying to make an extra buck off the air you breath

exactly. People keep talking about how digital distribution is the future but until these companies start offering up reasonable pricing hard copies will rule the day. Its so much easier just to go buy it in a store and have the whole thing.
