Taken from Major Nelson's site:
"· New display support. Because you asked for it, we are adding 16X10 over VGA or HDMI, and support for 1440x900 or 1680x1050."

This is pimp, I'm using a 21' monitor can't wait to see what its going to look like nowonewiththegame
Not much different, but it's good they're adding it.
This is awesome news. Im not familiar with the guy of which the quote came from, as im not really down with the kids these days. I just hope its reliable. Plus i can show of my SM226BW to its full potential, to annoy my flay mate :):) Cheers MSscottnixYou must not have read the IGN report about this feature.
Quick questions about the upcoming godsend that is resolution updates for those who need them. I'm looking at a couple monitors to get, one being a 22" 1680 x 1050 monitor with VGA/DVI/HDMI/Component...etc. Compared with a 24" 1200 x 1080. My biggest focus is console gaming, namely xbox 360, so whatever else works is bonus. Presumably, the update for 1680 x 1050 is through VGA / HDMI? If that's the case, say the monitor only has one VGA slot. My computer is older, so i think VGA is all it has going for it. Also, I'm sending away the xbox (RRoD) and assuming i might not get one with HDMI (previous 360 didn't have it.). If this is the situation, is there any other way to hook the comp. up to the monitor, without using VGA? Alternatively, is there no other option for the xbox to be hooked up to the monitor if you want 1680 x 1050 support (i.e - component cables?)?.
Next, could a 24" screen be too big for a desk monitor? I don't know too much about tech specs, but i've heard something about monitors having smaller pixel size than compared to HDTV? I'm just concerned that if i have this on a desk, i'll be able to see some textual issues if i'm too close up. The 20" -22" seems more suited to a desk in my head, but presumably they wouldn't make big monitors if people didn't like them/were comfortable with them. I guess i mean in the context of fast 360 gameplay.
Other little tidbits: would spending xx more amount of $$ on 1200 x 1080 be a valuable benefit compared to the 1680 x 1050 ratio? My fear is in an effort to save cash, it turns out the 1680 x1050 support isn't the best it can be, despite MS's insurances. So if you had the cash (it seems relatively small in the difference), would you just go all out and get a monitor that can support 1080p?
Ok, jeez, that wasn't quick at all. Still, any help would be mucho appreciated!
Finally, my Samsung 226BW will be able to show its true potential.Azules31Same here dude. Excellent news.
so it is 1680x1050 indeed included in there.
before i used to use widescreen format 1280*1024 (i think) and it use to appear on the whole screen on my lcd
i tried 1680*1050 but i see black bars on bottom and top. but it is 1680*1050 indeed. i was suprised to see these black bars since i have never saw them before when using 1280*1024.. mind you my 22 inch monitor's resolution by default is 1680*1050.
i now sorta realize that hey maybe it is supposed to be displayed like this...its probably that all that time that i have been using 1280*1024 widescreen format i got more vertical space but had horizontal space chopped off. makes sense sort of..
if anyone can further confirm this it would be much appreciated..
