Fallout 3: no companions error

Hi, I just completed the quest 'Take it back' and after it, my companions were gone (Fawkes and dogmeat). (I have Broken Steel so the story goes on) I thought 'Oh, they are just on their old places, like vault 101' but they were gone. I went to Charon but he said he can't follow me because I have already a follower. I couldn't find Fawkes and Dogmeat anywhere and can't have a companion at the moment.

What the hell is going on?
