I feel some games get side quests right, and they are very fufilling and rewarding (cool items etc, character development). Is Fallout 3 the same way? Or is it like Mass Effect where like only 10% of the side quests were worth it for incentive and/or fun (as opposed to 90% of Mass Effects side quests which were a chore and did not even offer much into the backstory

They're definetly worth it. They make Fallout 3 what it is. The game has some of the best Side Quests out there. Play them all.

One of my favorite parts of Fallout 3 was roaming the wastelands and encountering the different side quests. There's so many different characters and situations. Each person and location you encounter is completely unique and usually alot of fun. Basically, the side quests (and exploration) is what makes Fallout 3 such a great game.

Yeah, I loved the way Fallout 3 did this.

Totally worth it, the side quests are far superior to the main quest

It's worth it. The side quests last longer than the regular game and are definetly enjoyable. The sidequests are what got me addicted to getting the achievements for the game.

Yes, the sidequests are like 4 times longer then the main game, they are what make Fallout 3 such a good game.

I thought the sidequests were fantastic - really expanded the Fallout world. Many were like little storylines in themselves!

Very worth it. A lot of the side quests are better than the main quests.

The real question should be: "Fallout 3 main story? Worth it or waste of time?"

Of course the side quests are worth it. They are what makes the game so great.

definitely worth doing. I really enjoyed all my time in Fallout 3, whether it was doing the main quest, doing a side quest, or just randomly exploring

The side quests, and exploring the world, are definitely worth it. They got the atmosphere just right for this game, and you stumble across some interesting characters.

yeah i'd spend as much time with the sidequests as possible before triggering the horribly dissappointing end of the game. F3 was a wicked game all the way through but i was really really close to bombing my wireless controller through my flat panel because the ending was so god-awful, I was sitting there thinking "How can you devote so much time to making such an awesome game, and then spend all of 20 minutes making the end 'cinematic' "

so yeah i'd suggest doing everything, kill all the super mutant behemoths, do all the side quests, hell even spend the multiple hours necessary to collect nuka cola and nuka cola quantum for the nuka cola challenge quest.

also after you do sidequests, flip your radio on for a bit and here about your recent exploits from another perspective, it's pretty interesting. Oh and explore the crap out of everything and everywhere, you'll find some of the best weapons in the game just laying on the ground in places.
