Without the Broken Steel DLC, once you beat the game, that's it, no more after that. As for playing the DLC, it can be done whenever you want to, with the exception of BS, which only happens once you beat the game.

Broken Steel raises the level cap, so that is worth getting earlier since you will hit the level cap easily. For the others like OA and Pitt, they trigger soon after getting them, but wait for you to advance them.

The DLC will soon be released in "packs" which will save you money (since you're buying more than one expansion at a time). I'd look into that if you'd like to save money. There will be more DLC that will be released soon, like Mothership Zeta and Point Lookout, which look amazing.

Doesn't really matter when you get them, but definitely get Broken Steel before you beat the game so you can continue the story. All of the DLC is amazing so they're all worth getting.
