Fallout New Vegas : How the hell do you beat Legate Lanius????

I am level 25 character at the part where you have to fight Legate Lanius (I don't have enough speech or Barter to tell him to retreat) I have Boone and ED-E as companions and using NCR face wrap armor for myself I have no idea how am going to beat him because he has way too much legionaries helping him. I have several drugs to boost my health and damage resistance and stuff like that but the problem is i only have like 4 stimpaks and 10 super stimpaks (i am playing on normal if that makes any difference) Weapons i have (that i remember) Mercy (special grenade machine gun but at pretty bad condition) ,Riot shotgun ,Anti Materiel Rifle with like only 12 AP rounds left ,Sniper Rifle , Annabelle (Special Rocket launcher) , Dinner Bell (special hunting shotgun) , C4 Plastic Explosive ( which barely removed any health from him when i used them) (these are the only weapons i remember i have on me right now fo sure that are the only real ones which have some chance to do some damage the other ones are not powerful or fast enough to take care of them all) My problem is that:

1)Boone and ED-E get their asses kicked like almost immeadiately

2)There are waaayyy to many Legionaries with Legate so i cannot focus on him (or anyone really i just shot randomly trying to hit anyone i see)

3)I have absolutely NO IDEA what strategy i am going to use because even a sneak attack critical with Anti Materiel Rifle on Legate doesn't do any damage at all

4)The Legionaries he has with him always outrun me and beat the crap outta me with Super Sledges ,Power Fists ,Ballistic Fists and there are also several guys on the ledges above me shooting me and there are just way too many people to try and kill)

btw can you actually clear all the legionaies with Legate or do they just keep respawning until you kill Legate???

Any help and strategies to use on how to beat him would be GREATLY HIGHLY APPRECIATED because this guy just kicks my ass everytime i reload the game and if you think i am in a position where i have no chance of beating him at all pls tell me because i saved before the battle so i can restart the battle and come a bit better equipped

Easy peasy mate!

Since you have the Anti-Material Rifle and a Sniper Rifle, everything should be easy. This is what you do:

1. Before you engage Lagate in a fight, kill all guys that are located in the Watch Towers, to the left and right of where the Legate's located.

2. Give Boone the Sniper Rifle and leave him AND ED-E at the very first door to Lagate's compound. This step is critical! Tell them to wait right next to the door.

3. DO NOT engage the Legate in the conversation which means dont go close to him which initiates a conversation.

4. It will be helpful if you had some mines that you can put on the PATH from the stairs (where the Legate is) to where the exit door is (where Boone and Ed-E are waiting). The mines will slow the Legate down a bit, since he is so fast! haha

5. After step 4 is done (or you can skip it if you dont have the mines, but it will definitely help) go at the bottom of the stairs, where you have a clear sight of the LEGATE. CROUCH and make sure are HIDDEN as if you are successfully sneaking. So you have to be HIDDEN and have a clear sight of Legate's head. Take out the ANTI MATERIAL RIFLE and make sure you do a head shot while HIDDEN!. This will drain one third of his HP.

6. Right after you are done with the head shot, wait until he start running for you and initiate VATS with the ANTI MAT. Rifle. Aim for the head.

7 After you are done with VATS, start running like crazy towards Boone and ED-E. And i DO mean like crazy!

8. One Boone and ED-E have a clear sight of the Legate they open fire, and especially Boone's sniper ability will pretty much destroy the Legate.

9. Just in case have a Flame Thrower ready for close encounters.

P.S. Just saw your point 3 that the sneak attack do not do damage to the Legate which is not true at all. Make sure you are very close to him ( at the bottom of the stairs where he is located) and do a sneak attack. Aim for the head!

I laid a crap ton of of explosives around before the fight and set them off, that usually crippled his leg at least, and I just kinda run and gun. doing my best to avoid the other dudes. Near the end I was panicking a lil and had to whip out alien blaster to take out the other dudes that spawned.

so its actually rather easy as long as you don't try to slug it out with him

I was planning on going for another playthrough but i am getting a glitch where the game doesn't let me level up so like i am level 1 and i have 270/200XP so i should be leveling up but the game will not let me it doesn't even tell me i leveled upand i kinda got sick of having to repeat the intro part everytime just to see if i level up so i started playing something else but i am planning on trying again tomorrow
