Crytek developed the first FarCry, though they are not doing anything with this game. It does look alot like Crytek games, but makes sense as it would be logical to use the same look and feel of the first FarCry since it was so much of a success. And to answer the forum creator's question, you do not need to understand the first FarCry to understand this one. The story and characters are completely different than that of the first.
