Fellow XBOX'ers, Don't Get Robbed This Holiday Season

This time of year someone is always trying to prey on your holiday spirit.

There are going to be threads in here that say you can earn free games or that you can join an all new web site for gaming or there's holiday tournaments going on that you can join

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THEM.

All of them are designed to gain access to your personal information which they can in turn use themselves or turn over to someone else for the same purposes.

360 owners are vulnerable because once someone compromises their gamertag they can go right into that person's life and screw with their credit history and even cause problems with identity theft.

When you see these threads do not even click the link to see where they take you. That's enough for the website to track where you came from, what ISP and location your computer is at, and they'll follow you right back here to try to sucker someone else.

Also, when your friends send you a message to go to a website don't go there. It will look like an Xbox Website but it is not. FiveDollaOutlaw

Go directly to the XBOX site. Don;t follow pasted links from anyone (of course good friends and family need not apply lol)

Stay away from anything like this at the holidays, they're all scams

Now I now what you're going to say "Yeah but that's not my fault I'll just yell at Microsoft"

True but then you're also dealing with trying to resolve credit issues if not more when you yell at Microsoft.

Lets say for example someone signs in using my name on there 360 and they get banned on my name. Will I be able to make a new account on my 360?

Good advice? Uh...no...if they can make the techs slip by calling customer support, then don't you think that they can just sign on xbox live and just snatch names here and there by playing online games? Good try.

And basically anyone with common knowledge can figure this stuff out. Don't give out your information, check the correct site address and whatnot...really simple actually..

That post would have been so much better if at the end you posted a link which asked us for our credit card info to help "those in need". Amigro

Well yes, that would have been a zinger but I didn't want to send mixes messages to those that aren't that quick to decipher things.

Now that people might be missing a few games they asked for for the holidays I wanted to make sure that no one falls prey to these scam artists.
