Can we stop talking about how linear it is really?

It's not just this forum.. EVERYWERE i go its FF is too linear this too linear that? REALLY? How many other games have been TOO linear and have gotten amazing ratings and no crap for it? is it really because its FF? get the hell over it honestly. Its a great game and if you beleive a critic wright up and or a review your an idiot cause in this day and age either they get paid to slap a pretty number on it or they dont even look at it for more then an hour...

And yes now im done.

It just pisses me off great games get crap reviews for soo many stupid reasons..

Linear or not, I'm really enjoying FFXIII. It looks to be quite an epic game.

So far I think it's okay, but I don't really like any of the characters except Sazh. Linearity wouldn't bother me if there was more to do in this game other than walking, fighting and watching cut scenes. It's not a bad game but it's certainly not the best Final Fantasy. Far and away from it, in fact. I'd argue that even the PSP's Crisis Core: FInal Fantasy VII was better.

The game is pretty good so far, but to not mention the linearity is to overlook a MAJOR drawback versus every other game in the series. I'm not saying it takes enough away from the game to consider it bad, but it is definitely a flaw. A very noticeable, linear flaw. Part of why I like open RPG's is the chance to explore the gameworld. There is no chance to do that, because the first 30 hours could just as easily have been a string of battles with no game map in-between, just cutscenes. The only reason you can even walk before the game opens up after chapter 10 is to show off the graphics. Which are excellent no doubt, but why have such a varied world when you can't do anything in it? I have very mixed feelings about the game. I like it, but I can't say I love it. It could just as easily have been a side-scroller prior to chapter 10, with an RPG fighting system for the combat . The effect would have been exactly the same. I hope this isn't a staple of future iterations to come. FFXIII to me will be a great experience while it lasts, but I can't see myself returning to play it again like I did with VII, VIII, VIIII, or even X (which was certainly more linear than the aforementioned titles, but allowed much more exploration than XIII). Even the first one on NES offered a better sense of exploring a game world.

Its simply because; 1.Cry babies. Seriously, there is no problem with linearity. I personally just don't see it. 2. People like to jump onto the hate bandwagon. They wanna look cool. 3.Butthurt. Because the game has been hyped for 4 years (I think) and it didn't turn out to be the "OMGWTFBBQAMAZING" game that will never be made. But who's fault is that for hyping it up?

Linearity worried me at first but boy was i wrong i'm having a blast with it. As an old school FF player i must say that XIII is friggin good.

To be honest, I think if it were, less linear as in ff7,8,9, etc. I don't think the story would have been portrayed as effectively. In saying that, I'm enjoying this game far more than any other rpg I have played on xbox360...mass effect 2 comes close though:) But yeah linear or not this is a fantastic game 9-9.5 for me.

I'm definitely with you, I seriously doubt that the story would have been as effective in an open world setting, since there would have been no sense of urgency or danger if I could wander freely through towns and open landscapes. Honestly, the clear cut direction and linear levels don't bother me at all, I find them to be fun and engaging, and the crystarium system takes the sphere grid from FFX and perfects it! I honestly love everything about this game, and I am over half way (according to the IGN guide, there are 13 chapters, and I am in the middle of chapter 7.... which is rather disappointing, considering I am only 12 hours or so in) through the game, and the story is by far one of the best I have ever seen. Such a great game, people need to stop complaining.

You realize that people are complaining about it being linear because FF has never been linear, right? Why would people complain about a game that is normally linear? Things like FPS games, action/adventure, platform, etc. Those are always generallly linear. RPGs aren't supposed to be linear. You can't role-play if everything is set out for you in specific order. And before you ask, yes, I am currently enjoying the game. I haven't even gotten through the early linear parts yet.

No youre not halfway done. The later chapters are LONNNG. Chapter 11 for example is going to take like 20 hours.
