Well if you go off the reviews then you should get it if you like a good story with a fun battle system. Rent it first if you're worried about being to linear. Idk.. FFX was kind of linear and it was never a huge problem. Now all of a sudden this term is popping up everywhere. For me i'm buying it first thing tomorrow morning can't pass up one of the best games of the year.
Agreed. If you're a FF fan you wouldnt even ask this question. If your this skeptical I guess rent it and see if you like it.Well if you go off the reviews then you should get it if you like a good story with a fun battle system. linear thing doesn't bother me so much, cause your right FFX was pretty linear and it was great. I do hope there are some extras like the monster arena of FFX or the ultiate weapons in this new installment
I actually own FFIV, VII, IX, X, and XII and I was impressed with all of them except XII. I found the story to be too political, and the characters had no connection with me, the character development did nothing for me as well, the battle system was ok but I do prefer the traditional turn-based system better. Its the only FF that I own that I have't beaten
i played 8,7,9, 10 in that order, and i felt like they all had an element of linearity to them, for example 7 only opens up after midgar, and i wasnt happy when it did because i loved that fast paced crazy adventure thing, and it kind of slows after.... 8 was not too linear but was perfectly so and is always going to be my favourite, X was amazing and very linear. FF is not in my opinion about the linearity but the story the characters and the fights(+materia/junctioning/sphere grid), im playing ff xiii now and im loving the brand new world and the crazy over the top cut scenes and characters, its Final Fantasy no more no less. Im not a fanboy i didnt play X-2, XII or XI, but i love narrratives and i feel like this one will have a standard FF story which i know ill enjoy... its not dragon age and i dont think theyre really comparable... good luck
I'm not bothering until it goes way down in price.
1- Only able to control one character.
2- Inability to explore/backtrack to previous locations.
3- Lightening (who looks like she weighs mabye 103 pounds) easily plows through several heavily armored, armed soldiers without breaking a sweat...
4- The Chocobo in the stereotype black guy's Afro...
5- They've made the summons more like transformers...
6- The music in every trailer or review I've seen has done an amazing job turning me off.
For me, there's too many reasons that I have gone from hyped to completely disinterested.
I just picked it up but yet to play it. Really, all the bad things about the game isn't really as bad as it sounds. To be honest, all those things are coming from hardcore gamers. Being "too linear" isn't bad, FFX was pretty linear and ti was still good. Those negative things are from people who complete games 100% and stuff, and I wouldn't waste my time with that. I want to play the game, enjoy it and love the story and characters.
I'm a DIE HARD Final Fantasy fan. My favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy IV (II Snes). At first I had major gripes with this game, especially when it game overs if your main character dies. This game is extremely linear until Chapter 11, you can't even switch characters until chapter 10. I will say this though, the story picks up around chapter 6, 12 hour mark, and doesn't stop sucking you and also the paradigm shift system is fantasic (best battle system ever in a final fantasy game).
It does suck that there are no towns, weapons upgrade system suck, as well as the weapons, but the game becomes absolutely addictive once you reach chapter 11. Plus you get to hunt and kill marks (similar to FF XII). It's definitely worth it to play until the 25 hour mark and beyond. I would recommend a rental first to see if you like it, if you do, then buy it! If not, go play Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, Borderlands, or AVP. Plenty of good games out right now.
I've been wondering about this game, also. I've never played a bad Final Fantasy game. I owned III for the SNES, and I owned VII and VIII for Playstation. I haven't read much about the latest ones, but I used to think they were great games. I used to play them a lot.
Looks beautiful and the story is pretty good so far. They oversimplified both the combat and rpg elements, but it's still fun to watch and play. All and all i'm happy with my purchase.
First ff game for me, its pretty epic. I got a migraine though and had to stop playing. (Might have been vanilles fault?)halo3-player
Personally, Hope as been far more annoying than Vanille from what ive seen of him.
I`ve played for around 6 hours since I got it yesterday, and so far I absolutely recommend it to anyone even concidering it.
First of all the linearity what has been talked about a lot: You don`t get the feel of linearity altough the way you proceed is linear, and this is not a bad thing at all seriously. It serves the plot well and simply it just works out that way, try it yourself and forget the critics.
And seriously how can somebody badmouth Vanille, she`s friggin hot (unless u`r a girl ofc)! Haven`t you guys learned that woman characters have the right to be annoying if they are cute and sexy? And lol yeah yeah it`s a video game but still I would do her anytime and because of that she can sound as stupid as she wants rofl.
Battle system rocks, and things get harder altough in the beginning you can just bash X and win battles. There has been harder battles where I havefailedmany times even during the 1st 6 hours. Graphics are superb, plot is intresting so far. Kept me playing for 6 hours straigh since I unpacked it.
Unless game gets lame all of the sudden, I can`t understand all the critizism. *10 so far.
If you're a FF fan you wouldnt even ask this question.1_Hit_Killer
Damn. This is where I'm at. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan and I'm not playing FFXIII right now. Its crazy to think about for me, really, cuz I *really* am a huge Final Fantasy fan. I think FFVI is the greatest game of all-time, and I just finished playing the remade FFIV on the DS(freakin awesome). And I *dont* have FFXIII. I have the money to buy it. And I haven't.
Why?
Because what I've heard about the game really does bother me. FFX may have been linear, but there was still some decent, and rewarding sidequesting. This game, againfrom what I've heard, is kinda short on it aside from monster hunts. And for the record, I like monster hunts(a la FFXII), but its not enough on its own. I'm really liking more open-world games these days and I feel very restricted in slower-paced games(like RPG's) when I dont have that freedom. Its weird. But its how I feel.
I know its supposed to be a 'solid' game, but thats not what I wanted. FF has some high standards, and anything less than a brilliant game(especially as the first game for this generation of consoles that we waited a long freakin time for) would have been a disappointment. And it is that - a less than brilliant game. Good, but not great. I'll definitely buy it and play it and probably enjoy it, but I'm not running out the door to get it. I'll probably try and find a good deal on it, or even wait til I can find a used copy pretty cheap. Kinda sucks.
