So its been a year or so since I've had my Xbox 360 and I finally got the RROD. It started when I loaded Halo 3 and it started up, it took a long time for the game to start from the menu, when It did start it froze up. So I rebooted it and it locked up on the Xbox 360 logo, so I changed the batteries on my controller (just a thought) and rebooted it again. It froze as soon as it started. Rebooted again....and there it was the RROD!!!!

So I called Microsoft and talked to them (mind you this is Sunday night at 11:00 PM EST) they answered and entered my info into their computer and gave me a ticket number. They never asked me for my Xbox screen name or anything like that, she told me I would be covered and they would be sending me a box.

So my question is to you guys who have had this happen, what the turn around time for the box from Microsoft (I read people call it the COFFIN). How long does it take from the time you send it back to the time that you get it back from Microsoft? Do they send anything with it when you get it back? A little something for your trouble?

Very Curious....

Thanks!

as far as i know it is about a month but all i can tell you is don't get to down i got the RRoD last week around wed. and on saturday i tried my 360 and it worked (after i unplugged everything a few times - HDD included and left it for a few days) and it has worked fine so far so i called back support and the guy advised me to cancel my repair order because if they recieve it and try it and it works they will just send it back.

Since i don't live in america or canada, i don't have microsoft extended warranty, but i tried the towel trick for 25 minutes and it's been 3 weeks playing mass effect up to 5 to 6 hours each day and it works fine.

I hear that the RROD is very common and to be honest, it's happened to mine. However, I turn it back on a couple minutes later and it works fine. :D

Thats exactly what mine did. I turned it off and got it then turned it back on and it was fine. It died the next day after watching a movie.

This is the reason why I got my 2 year extended warranty from Best Buy. Within the 2 years, no matter how many times I get the RRoD, they just give me a different 360. I walk in with my RRoD one, and walk out with a new one. None of this having to wait a month to play my video games again. And in one case (one of my good friends) they NEVER sent his 360 back because they said they lost his shipping info and his box ID... he had to buy a whole new 360.

Takes from 2 to 6 weeks depending how lucky/unlucky you are, I've been through a 2-3 week turnaround 3 times and one time it took 6 weeks because they messed up the COFFIN order (i was so pissed), currently waiting for it to come this Friday i.e. ~3 weeks this time.

I think you do. I live in Denmark, and i visit a danish forum often too and many people have experienced the red ring stuff and sent the box back and got it fixed and so on.

And if you didnt then id personally if i got the red ring myself find an microsoft employee, pound my 360 up their bum and make them do some quality consoles so i can keep it for as long as i want, mean damn, my old NES is still up and running.

Well, I hear this a lot so before it happen to me I went to the service to avoid this. I don't know what they do but I just give it and tell them if there was a way to avoid this. they say yes and 10 days later it was back home. Still working fine.

Be aware that this Best Buy warranty you have will only cover you the first time it happens. You will be allowed to swap out for a new unit only once. When you do make the swap you'll have to buy the warranty all over again to be covered a second time. Read the fine print or ask at the service desk.

My 360 RROD'd on me around 10:00 PM CST on Sunday, January 20th. I called customer support immediately that night, and had pretty much the same decent experience with the customer service rep that you did, but I didn't get my "coffin" until yesterday.

Not true. It's already RRoD on me once. When I bought it I got the warranty and I specifically asked them about multiple RRoDs and if I would have to by multiple warranties... they told me I just needed the one warranty. And after I had traded my original in to get a NEW one I had asked again about having to buy a warranty and they said no, my original warranty covers it.

Eh... first off let me say I'm sorry. I personally thought the red rings would never happen to me, and sure enough they flashed in my face. I had it for a year and a half before they went off. I just sent my 360 off to Microsoft, so I'm not going to have it for another week or so.

*sigh* At least the new consoles are resolving this problem :)

:P Well at least you wont have to worry about messing it up. Microsoft actually includes explicit instructions with the box you're expecting. Cheers to Microsoft for thinking this thing through, it's just too bad it has to happen in the first place. :(

call XBOX & they'll send out a box to ship it back with. It happened to me and I got my Xbox back in about 2 weeks with a 1 month free service card to Xbox live.

Make sure when you do send it back you take off the hard drive and make sure there is no game it it.

It took my friend 2 weeks to get his in. but when it came in it was broke, someone dropped the box or the system on the floor and smashed up the corner. needless to say it took another 2 weeks for that. But that was ok we just played ps3 . now we are even more for the ps3 (xbox360+breaks=bad, ps3+works=good) does not take much to figure that out.

If you don't want your console to break, definately buy one of those. You'll get so little use out of it, it won't have the chance to break! :P

I got the RRoD last week and called MS right away. (Second time by the way. First time back in Feb 2006, and got a refurbished console back one week later.) Anyway, after I got off the phone I tried the towel trick just for the hell of it, and wouldn't you know, it worked. I was a doubter, but it worked. But now, what would happen if I decided to send it in to MS anyway? What if they test it and it's still working. Would they just send it back to me? It's going to fail again pretty soon anyway. Should I just wait for it red ring on me again before sending it in? I'm thinking yes. Got a great back up when I send it in though. A buddy of mine is letting me borrow his elite while my console is in the shop. What a friend he is. He's a WOW junkie and a new console gamer so he said he won't really miss it.

So yeah, this is another topic that should be put in the sticky thread. No offense but man I don't understand why people can't use a thread that's already made. And pre-emptively yes it hurts me. Sorry to hear about your luck.

They just gave me a month's worth of Gold Live for my inconvenience.

For those of you who suffered the lost, what have you done while waiting for your unit to return? I hooked up my original Xbox to play some ancient game called Morrowind.
