sorry if i sound like an idiot here, but what exactly is jasper?

Jasper is the new chipset designed by microsoft to use less power and diminish the chances of RROD. It will never be 100% RROD proof, but it did cut down the chances quite a bit. There are three chipsets in order from older to newer:

Zephyr

Falcon

Jasper

I have a zephyr myself and it is still ok.
