I'm sure I'm not the only one that has troubles finishing openworld/sandbox style games. And those that I do finally finish take longer than the average person. Ever since GTA 3 came out my gaming experiences has changed (maybe even FFVII, hell probably when I was introduced to RPG's back in the NES days). From then on out any open world game I struggle to finish. My most recent one I've started is Fallout 3. I've put in a good 20+ hours already, and I haven't even done the second main quest where I go looking for my father. The only side quests I've done so far are, "Blood Ties," "Power of the Atom," "Those Things!," and I'm almost finished with "The Wasteland Survival Guide." I just get so distracted by everything else in the game that I get completely lost in the game world.

Other games that this has happened with: FFVIII, FFX, FFXII, Morrowind, Oblivion, GTA IV, GTA: San Andreas, etc. Hell I should've known not to even try playing WoW. I played it for about a year, only to level up one character to lvl 50. (I'm not going to list all games from each console generation because that would be too long. Just the ones that stand out in my mind)

As for the games I'vefinished: FFVII, GTA3, Vice City, Fable 1 & 2, Spiderman 2, Bully. I can't think of any more off of the top of my head, but I know there are more. But even though I finished these games,my friends played and finished them much quicker than I did. And I mean MUCH quicker. Hell I remember way back when, my brother finished FFVII in like 40 hours. For me it took around 80 hours. Although I did have more side quests finished, I feel that putting in double the time he did I could'vefinished every possible thing in the game.

Well enough typing. So I ask. Who else on these boards has a hard time finishing open world games? And what reasons keep you from accomplishing the feat?

Same happened with me for Fallout 3. I eventually went on the main quest and finished it though, but it was probably at 40-ish hours.

shouldnt that be a good thing that it takes you a while to finish? dont u buy games to play them and the longer they last, the more bang you got for your buck?

just sounds as if you're complaining that open-world games take u a long time. that should be a good thing imo

and you're friends prolly beat FFVII that quick cuz they don't care about the story, read fast, don't like to level up.... could be a ton of things. could also be that u suck at video games lol.

nah but seriously everyone plays at their own pace...

most rpg's like that take me around 60-80 hours cuz i like to do everything plus i actually read what people are saying in the story-

I'm not really complaining about the time it takes me to finish. I quite enjoy the timeI spendexploring the random ins and outs. I'm just saying it's frustrating to me because there is so much to do in these games that I rarely have enough free-time tofinish.

I have a hard time finishing them, especially Fallout3. I love that game, and I'll probably spend a lot of time on the Thost Things! quest. I just can't find the ant's hideout place(don't tell me, I want to do it on my own)

I don't have a hard time finishing open world games. I believe the only open world game I completed was Oblivion. I loved it and didn't have any problems finishing it.

It takes me a while to finish these sorts of games, as I like to explore a majority of their content (I try to, anyway).

I don't have a problem with finishing them, but it probably takes me a lot longer to finish them than it does the average person. But then that's probably true for most of my games, as I like to explore every last area and line of dialogue of games I enjoy. It's just a habit from when I was younger and only got maybe 3 new games a year some years. I get my money's worth, so I can't complain.

Fallout 3, the sheer size of it is crazy, love the game though.

I wonder if all people who have troubles completing these games have the same problem as I do... A.D.D. I most definitely have this problem. As well as a little OCD. I mean, playing Fallout I refuse to heal myself with stimpacks unless absolutely necessary. I know it sounds stupid, but if I'm in a battle where I feel healing isn't necessary, I will continue to reload a previous save until I get through the battle unscathed or taking minimal damage. Weird I know...

I bought Oblivion right after I got my first 'Box, about a year and a half ago. I am STILL playin Oblivion (with huge breaks here and there to play other games). I think it's equal parts full exploration/DLC/not wanting to let go to an amazing world. I need to let go and finish though ... other MASSIVE games await ...

Lol I do that in every game I can save at any point.

I have Goty oblivion on my pc but I have never spent more then a day outside of the sewer.

Its intimidating to see alll my options in an endless world at once. Its hard for me to get started in non-linear open world game because theres no guidelines.

I suggest to those with similar issues to use a guide at first that way they can get started with a more linear feeling.

I really enjoyed Morrowind back in the day. I must have created a half a dozen or so characters and sunk a fair few hours into each. Having said that i never actually finished the game. Mostly because i got REALLY bored. then Oblivion came out. I palyed like 3 hours then just got way to bored to be bothered to carry on. Far Cry 2 was just a huge let down.

So, yes, i do have trouble finishingf open world games. In fact i try to avoid them if i can. I like the story to take me, rather than me having to find the story.

I'm finding it hard to turn my PS2 on to play FF12 b/c of Fallout but I do intend on finishing all these games. Now for the GTA games, do you guys get 100%?. I just find it hard to want to do all the police, paramedic, and firetruck mission.
