If you don't have the newly released super-quiet Benq drive in your 360, good news comes from Kotaku. The site claims that a new "firmware update to the console allows quieter performing drives" and devs already have their updates. We're not sure how a software update could possibly change the noise emitted by the various drives used, but fingers crossed - lets hope they've managed it.

I don´t know could be that a firmware update makes the drive quiter but don´t realy think it´s tru. hope I´m wrong

Do you even know what firmware is?
Seriously don't make a thread unless you have any idea about the topic. To suggest a firmare update could change the noise level of a DVD-ROM drive is just stupid.
it be nice but whatever, i just turn teh colume up
anyways to the person that said he should figure out what firmware is, the firmwarecan slow down the speed of the disc
Mister_Griffin
Technically you could slow down the disc speed, but you would lose performance.
Loading times would be much longer. I don't think slowing the drive speed down would be in the best interest of gamers.

That freakin' drive is pretty obnoxiously loud.
There was an old NCAA March Madness EA game for the Play Station and it gave that drive a workout like I've never heard. It was like a dot matrix printer set next to a microphone.
It's slighly annoying that the Xbox had a nice quiet demeanor about it but the 360 sounds like a Pentium 4 machine that you've set in someone's greenhouse and then tasked to run AutoCAD, Photoshop and Oracle at the same time.Â
Fingers crossed? Seriously, if your 360 is making that much noise, something is wrong with it. I can hardly hear my 360, and I'm sitting right next to it!monco59

i agree with you. But you know what? People are such whiners and love to complain about the simplest little things that are truly inconsequential (who CARES how loud your drive is??? Do you play your games in a vaccuum with the volume off?????????).....and if they really do do this, we can thank all those people are are stupid enough to complain about something so trivial.

I come not to criticize the 360, but to praise it.
I'm not complaining... As long as this thing is tough enough to keep working while it's spinning at 100,000 rpm, I'll keep playing. The Dreamcast was annoyingly loud, but it never broke.
My 360 on the other hand... last time I checked, this is my fifth.
Keep it loud, it doesn't bother me -- much, anyway. I just expect a machine that cost 100% more than my Xbox to be just as reliable. And yet it's been 500% less reliable. I take it back. It's not 500% less, it's technically infinitely less reliable, because my Xbox, purchased in 2002, still works flawlessly and never failed for even a moment.
Now THAT was a console. Who knows when we'll see such a tank of a machine on the market again?
OK, so I pulled a Marcus Antonius on you -- I am complaining. :P Deal.

I'm on my 4th console, but I found a loophole to get new consoles for free for life. So i never send it to Microsoft anymore. They just make me wait 3 weeks+ for a new console anyways.
When I bought my first console I get the Best Buy warranty. Cost me $50.....I highly regret it now.
Microsoft support has been sent overseas so you talk to some guy saying: "Durka druka xbox support Allah"
It really pisses me off. No wonder were at war with Iraq. :P
you guys whine too much
imean if your 360 is making so much noise turn up the volume on the t.v.
if its louder than that then theres something wrong with it
such a funny topic8)

technically if you were playing in a vacuum the 360 would be silent, but then it would also overheat due to the fans becoming ineffective...Please Log In to post.
