for my first 360 game-gears or halo?

I'd wait two days and get CoD4, or get HL2.

Both of those offer lengthier, richer Single-Players and Multiplayers.

All in all, I'd say get HL2 Orange Box, It's absolutely the best starter game, seeing as it covers both SP and Multiplayer well, and doesn't get old for a while. Think about it, three different experiences (HL2, Portal, TF2). Slicing up Grunts with an energy sword gets old after a while

Sorry if I'm imposing on you, you may be dead set on getting GoW or Halo 3, I'm only trying to open up your eyes to a few more possibilities.

If I did not have online I would pick something like oblivion. Both Halo and Gears are fun but, the online is the big part of the game.

I don't understand why someone would pickup the xbox if you have no online. I hate to say but if you dont have online go buy a PS3 or a Wii.

I think you should get halo 3. Much more people are playing it now;just wait for Gears 2 which will probably be much better that the original.

gears of war was a blast so i would say go for gears(and you can pick up, pretty cheap)

but I would really just get COD4 instead of the two listed

Gears is one of my all time favourite games and i can never understand people who bash it, i guess some people dislike things which are populour. Its still the best graphics i have ever seen on any system, and it plays brilliantly.

People who say its short have too much time on their hands, I prefer an 8hour game which i know i will go back to time and time again and beat on higher difficulty levels to a mediocre 30 hour boring game any day.
