Just keep it in a ventilated area. Mine is on my dresser with lots of space between it an other objects. And wipe it down every once in a while to get the dust off.

Mine's usually standing up cause it looks bad ass. I had it lying down for awhile, but went  back to standing up. Launch console FTW!

I'm on my third but it doesn't matter in what position you have it. If it's going to break you notice mostly from day 1. Freezing, dirty disc errors etc. are signs it might. I had both that broke down horizontal and my friend still has his first from launch at it stands vertical, another friend has it horizontal and is also on his first. So this positioning hasn't really to do anything with it. Except keep it in a ventilated area offcourse.

Vertical, and ontop of my computer. My 360s hooked into my monitor so I had to put it close.

well u wanna make sure its ventilated, i always have the a/c on whenever i play. And the best way to that is by lifting it off the ground, like i put a carboard square underneath just to get the heat away from all ova the place. To answer ur question, go with horizontal, just one the two main ventillation points (the silver ones on the side, when its vertical) are covered when its vertical.

and standing it up so ur animals dont step on it, what happens if they knock it ova?

First off, nice old school connect four reference.
Secondly, it doesn't matter. It was designed to work in either orientation. In the year and some months I've had my 360 I've moved it back and forth as needed.

i keep mine on a shelf with the power supply at one end and my 360 vertical on the other side on the same level of the shelf so its well ventilated. as long as you keep it ventilated you wont run the risk of it overheating

Horiz of course!  It just doesn't seem natural for the disc to spin that fast against gravity.  It also has a lot to do with wear and tear.  My bro and I both have launch 360's, but he had that thing running games almost 24/7 and had to have it taken in.  It was last month, and I'm surprised it lasted that long.  His problem was very unique though.

The disc drive made some horrendous noise when Gears was starting up.  We quickly ejected the disc, which was perfectly fine, but the disc tray never closed after that.  Not even with the power off, so that to me was wear and tear at it's finest.

My launch day box is still kicking strong, but it only gets played around 15 hours per week.

this is my third the first one someone tripped on it standing vertically and scratched my disc then suddenly days later 3 red rings second one same thing someone tripped scratched same F**** game 3 red rings third the scratched disc won't even play but for some reason I keep putting it vertically because it REALLY is hot when there is not a lot of space between 360 (horizontal) and the platform it is positioned that's probably why they made it a bit curvy on the sides

I had my first 360 vertical and it died that way. On the ring of lights the first player light started switching over to where the first player light would be if it was laying horizontal and I just ignored it. Next thing I know it freezes, I turn back on and I get 3 red lights. Now my second 360, I had it vertical as well, and I noticed it did the same thing with the first player light, and I immediately turned it off and set it down horizontal, and it still works. I doubt this happens to every 360, but that's why I think everyone should have theirs horizontal.

Horizontal just to be on the safe side im on my second my first started with disc read errors which i thought was the game because every other worked.Tthen got r6v put it in bam 3 red lights and never turned on since but i have found my replacment runs ALOT quieter and cooler because my first made my shelf like a sona when i had to turn it off or get the game out. They were both horizontal so i would imagine it makes no diffrence because i had my first for almost a year and my warrenty was like 3 days from running out (ty god for them extending launch consoles) so no position matters if its gonna die its gonna die.

i was getting sporadic disc errors with it vertical.. ( i don't know why they didn't put one of those small knobs in the middle of the tray that you can latch the games onto )

so i switched to horizontal and i rarely get errors now. i also use the intercooler fan and keep it near a window, it works great.

I've had mine since launch and play it a lot with no problems at all. It's horizontal sitiing on a smaller box which used to contain a keyboard. This is best because it keeps the system levitated and cool :) Also keep your power supply on a flat surface.

I keep mine vertical, though I have dropped it 2 times already from about a 3-4 foot drop. Surprised mine isn't junk yet.

I keep lots of space around it so it keeps well ventilated and keep it off of any fabrics so static doesn't conduct.

Mine is horizontal and has been working since February 06. I keep it in a spot under the TV with about 5 inches away from a tree wall on both sides and 10 inches on the top. I dust it off once a week. I've had no major issues, except for Red Lights that gets fixed with a reboot and a disc tray not wanting to eject without a fight...

I've had mine since launch day, and I've always had it horizontal. I build a stand of wood the supports the center of the 360 while allowing the side vents to hang off, so I block no air vents and allow for maximum cooling.
