I decided to get online after my friend gave me his membership and an Ethernet cord . The cord happened to be missing that little clip piece so it was not secured when pluged into my xbox 360. My connection was very slow and had a few drops on the games I played NBA 2k7 and GOW. I talked to a few people online and they said that DSL was slow itself so that got me thinking if it was both things causing a slow connection. I want to know if you guys experience alot of lagging and connection problems with Verizon DSL. I plan on buying a new ethernet cord but only if I know that's the only problem with my connection. I have to run the cord through my apartment so I only want to go through this trouble if its worth it. Does it matter what ethernet cord I buy? Help me out guys . Thanks

I have Verizon DSL, and I have had no real problems with lag while playing on Live. I do a lot of stuff for work, so I am thinking about getting Verizon FiOS service, but Verizon DSL has been more than fast enough for me.

i have verizon dsl and i have no problem playnig online. it does not lag at all. i think the problem may lie within either your ethernet cord or the router/modem, but i'm not pretty sure =/

I have verizon DSL. I just got a new cable and router, and I have lots of lag. Could the router be the problem? What router do you guys have?

thanks guys . I also thought it may be my modem/router that came with my DSL when I got it. My computer seems a bit slow althoug it is kind of old so who knows. Is there any ethernet cords that work better then others?

Thousands of people have verizon DSL, some good connections some bad. The best thing you could do is if you have a PC connected to the same network is search google for "bandwidth speed test". Run the test, and see what your results are. EDIT: Search for "Bandwidth Speed Test"

The minimum broadband speed Microsoft recommends is 256K for download and 64K for uploads.

Dsl is about as bad as dialup to me. Cable is always the way to go. Cable puts dsl speeds to shame. Just my opinion on it I guess. I'm sure the dsl lovers on here will say i'm lying.

the problem with DSL is the farther you are from the soruce of the bandwidth comming from your provider, the slower the connection. i would recommend u to call up there tech support and ask them. they should be able to help solve the problem.

Really there are alot of things you can do to make sure your 360 is running as fast as possible. You could have a NAT issue that you are unaware of if you only really play with strangers (if you played with friends you would notice this issue cause you would not be able to connect with some of them). If its possible to DMZ a specific IP address on your router then I would DMZ the 360s IP. This allows the data directed to 360 to pass straight through the router with out any firewall or what not getting in the way. Or you could forward the appropriate ports for the 360 in your router. Some one really need to create a good Sticky that contains all this info about optimizing/troubleshooting your live connection.

What is good for a good host?

The first thing you should do is Test your Live Connection from the dashboard under the system blade to make sure everything is right. Remember NAT should be OPEN, not strict or moderate. Thats number one, if everthing is alright but hosting is still laggy then start thinking about a new provider. If you NAT is bad then post back or PM me.

It really isn't the brand, its your location. Some guy with the same service 20 blocks away could have half the speed of your connection cause of his distance to the nearest SBC building.

I tested my connection speed and it said 1285.4 K so I guess thats good huh. One of you guys said that being far from your internet causes lagging. I am using about a 30 feet cord b/c I run it from my bedroom to out into my livingroom. I also grounded the cord down to the floor by using those 'things' like it has a nail with an arc , maybe that also is bad. Too many things that can be that I am starting to think it may noy be worth it.
