Forza 2: getting into an online game

Just bought Forza today. when i try to find an online game i only ever go into lobbys where the race has already started. Has anyone any idea how to get into races thathave not started

dont go on quick match

go custom match and then join arace which has a green symbol instead of a checkered flag thing

when you scroll thru the list in the career mode it will have helmust (the race has started) or green lights (race hasn't started.) the race may be started by the time you are connected. if you enter a race that has started scroll down the player list. their position and lap count will show on the bottom right. if the race is almost over it's faster to wait for them to finish than find a new race and reconnect.
