Am I the only one who is noticing a ton of jaggies in the Forza 2 demo? I'm using VGA, does that make the AA worse so I have more jaggies?

Yeah, there are a ton of jaggies. This game surely isn't a graphical showpiece. PGR3 has better car models, and they even have fully rendered interiors.

That's fine. I wish I didn;t notice jaggies as much as I do sometimes. I come from a lontime pc gaming background so I think I notice em more than I should sometimes. One thing no one is mentioning though, PGR3 had worse jaggies than Forza 2 does, I think everyone is forgetting this.

Eh. Forza 2 looks better than PGR3 to me.

Also, those probably aren't jaggies. You are all more than likely running a non-native resolution on your crappy LCD... LCDs have terrible scaling and introduce "jaggy-like" artifacts in the games. There are virtually no native 1280x720p monitors anymore, yet game developers insist on developing in this rather than the more common 1360x720 (or something rather).

Back when I had a CRT, there were virtually no jaggies in ANY of my games. Upgrade to an LCD, and things go to the crapper. Space > quality... sadly no one wants to improve CRT technology.

My biggest complaint with the graphics in the demo is that the environments could have been done  better.  There isn't a whole lot of detail and the textures on the track and terrain are preety low ressolution.  I know the devs wanted to sacrafice graphical preformance for a stabe framerate they could have at least made the track itself look a little better   I'm not sure why everyone's complaining about the car models though, they're the most amazing car models I've ever seen in a videogame.

No, the reason why you see jaggies on an LCD and not on a CRT is because a LCD's image is tons sharper than a CRT's. Hence you'll notice more jaggies. I went from a 1080i HDTV CRT to my 720p HDTV LCD and the image is much sharper.

on topic. Forza 2 looks better than PGR3. it just has the ugly jaggies and crawling lines that keep the game from really being immersive.

Umm, my near top of the line HDTV is running at it's native resolution and the game has lots of jaggies. It's not the tvs/monitors, it's the game. As for not seeing any jaggies on a crt, that's just not true. I find it funny you're trying to say a crt has better picture quality than an lcd, perhaps 5 years ago, not now

Try again. CRTs have better darks and thus better colors than LCDs. LCDs are favored because of their size, not their performance.

That's simply a fact. I've been through several LCDs, ones ranging from $1500-2000 and I've seen them running HDTV games at Best Buy and they STILL don't beat CRTs in terms of quality. I bought a cheap 50" widescreen HDTV CRT (native 720p) and there were NO jaggies on PGR3, Halo 2, etc... I took it back because of space and some odd defect where the blue colors wouldn't properly align. I wish I hadn't.

Plus, it's a well-known fact that LCDs SUCK for anything not in HD. They have terrible scalers, it has NOTHING to do with them being sharper than CRTs (which they are IN SOME CASES... but text can look just as nice on a CRT)

Dude, CRT's are becoming obsolete as we speak. My plasma has black colours which are very close to to CRT levels. In a few years, CRTs will have no more advantages over either LCDs or Plasmas. You can support CRTs all you want, but the society will leave you behind... one day, when your tv breaks down and you need to get it repaird or replaced, you will realize that the age of CRTs is long gone.

Plasmas are susceptible to burn-in and are pretty expensive to repair as well. The technology is improving, I agree there, but scaling will always suck on Plasmas, LCDs, DLPs, etc. because of their design, and that doesn't seem to be changing much. For example, remember the "gaming" lag of the past? Do you know why that came about? Because of LCD, DLP, Plasmas, etc. poor scaling abilities. Things have improved in that since, but quality has not changed a bit... Wii looks pretty **** on any HDTV that's not CRT technology. Plug one up to an old CRT and the quality is much better.

I don't want to derail this thread, I was merely suggesting a possiblity for the jaggies.

I didn't notice jaggies on my CRT either... because it was a blurry, 480i POS television. CRTs takeup more space, consume more power and cause more eye strain. They don't make them in large sizes or in widescreen either. I don't know how you rationalize that it's better. Because it's not as sharp? That's better?

If they're going to push hi-def, developers need to learn how to do anti-aliasing. I don't see how there's any kind of argument there.

The people who say they dont see jaggies either have really bad blurry HDTVs or monitors or just are oblivious to noticing detail. Yes, forza has tons of jaggies but they're generated mostly by the reflections on the roof of the vehical.

Whoever says CRT TV's are better probably needs to wear galsses. CRT's send out loads and loads of eye damaging radiation. CRT can be 10 times as good as LCD, but perfect eye vision > bad sight with good TV.

PGR3 has more jags than Forza 2, But I think Forza looks better than PGR3 not by much. Who cares anyways cause Forza 2 is a much more impressive game.

PGR3 beats Forza 2 by a little in backround visuals but Forza car models are better.

Errr... last time I played GTR 2 on my pc there wasn't any jaggies. So I think they were able to put both worlds (good gameplay + grfx) and hopefully when they release the 360 version it will be the same (if not better). What's wrong with 30fps if you can optimize the engine to not have any shearing and tearing on the screen?? Well next time I suppose...

But I still might by this game if I am not tempted to buy the other titles coming out this summer/fall season..

Oh and btw the same thing happened with the first forza when the demo came out, everyone complained how bad it looked and the final version was much better. I'm not saying that this is what's happening with forza 2 but I wouldn't be suprised if the same thing happened. Plus they said it would have 4x AA, so if it were turned on then your should barely be able to see jaggies. And on that note, I don't know why everyone is complaining anyways. I enjoyed the demo and can't wait to get my hands on the final version to play career mode and mod the cars, and you can't forget how sweet it'll be in multiplayer.
