So there is a lot of lag. And there is no way to setup custom races?!? Are you kidding me? Someone told me that the game was actually released early and that they are supposed to "add" that ability later. But right now all you can do is join public races. You can not host them and set it to have no suggested line etc.!! This is joke!

How could a game that has such a weak online setup and doesn't even have the online options of Forza 2 get a 9.5?!?

Every game is open to what ever you want to turn on or off. But you can not start a game and force everyone else to have suggested line off, or full damage on, etc, etc. Like you could in Forza 1 and 2 and just about every other decent racing game on the planet!

You also can't turn collision off so it's just ghost cars for like a Nurbergring run etc. So that means the Nurbergring is a total waist of time. It has nothing to do with your driving skills but who can come out ahead of the massive pileup in corner one because of all the idiots that don't race clean and just hold the accelerator down full until they hit something!

Right now, Forza 3 has about the worst online racing of any game!

And it got a 9.5...

1. Lags your fault, It has dedicated servers. I for one havn't lagged at all.

2. You can turn collisions off

3. the assists are just that, there to assist. they are however NOT a substitute for real skill, and an't be compared to actual skill.

A skilled driver will always beat a noob with assists.

The Online portion of the game is fine, near perfect in fact.

lol same here. Well this one anyway. I've got to rewind 1000 times just to properly make a turn. And I really don't get it because the AI will be going full speed (not really, but way faster than I am) and they still make a much sharper turn than me haha. What am I doing wrong?

Turn auto break and suggested line off and then drive with in car view. And race the track not the car!!! Actually break and corner like you would in a real car. It will be much easier. Pretend the other cars are not there and just concentrate on driving and breaking properly on the track. It's not supposed to be an arcade racer (even though it's the least realistic of the series)!

I have never got lag yet! every other game (street fighter, gears, rainbow 6) I sometimes get a bit of lag here and there, forza 3 I can honestly say i have not experience any lag yet! As for online game customization, its a lot better than any other forza game, you can restrict any cars (or almost all of them) change pretty much any aspect of the game, i really doubt the TC has even played it.

the only online options you can change are if you invite people. thats the only way. there are no open online lobbies and there won't be according to the community manager on the forza forums. apparently matchmaking is the future of online racing.

Quick answer, fanboys in the press and pay offs from Microsuck.

It's very difficult to change anything in public matches. The only way to actually set up a race the way you want it is to start a private one, but most of us don'talways havea bunch ofpeople that are online playing FM3 at the same time. I don't know why the new fad is to have everything be automatic with matchmaking, predetermined tracks, settings and intermissions. I think having one host is much more efficient, and if you don't like the game your in, quit andmake one yourself, that's how it should be (which it was in FM2). If youdo manage to get a good track with some good players, it is fun, but god damn it could be soooo much better.

I think the general thinking behind this is that on a console service its just a lot easy to manage. Lets face it no console service is quite as versatile as a pc online system. Plus with consoles the emphasis is often on getting into games quick, many console gamers tend to want to just get straight into a game (which is part of the reason some people buy consoles rather than gming pcs). It would be nice to have more complicated options though.

Mind you with effort I dont see why it couldnt be done.
