So having done a few races I can safely say that this game will please many fans of the series.
Everything on the track is what you expect it to be. The handling is fairly consistent with Forza 3 and of course there are a variety of options to tune it the way you like. The track itself - Switzerland - is stunningly beautiful. You'll pass under tunnels, careen through ski-lodges, and feather the throttle as you exit a turn with the imposing peak of a mountain top staring you in the face. I cannot stress enough the magnificence of the track. It's varied in its offerings and feels alive.
In the demo you're behind the wheel of Mercury Cougar, Subaru WRX STI, or a Ferrari 458 Italia. They look really good. Particularly when you select your car and the game goes into "car porn mode" where you can select your colour. The default camera view when racing is the interior of the car. The look is very competent, but it's nothing mind blowing. I will say that it's better than Forza 3's "pasted on" interior views. Unfortunately, the autovista mode is not made available in this demo.
There's a lot more I could go in-depth about, but suffice it to say that if you're a gear head and a fan of the series you already know what to expect. Sadly, though, the rivals mode is selectable but not working.
i love rivals mode, I've been swapping times with a mate since the demo came out and it's really bringing out the competitive side in us both.
For anyone that hasn't tried this already;
Go to rivals mode and pick the one with the BMW M5 that pits you against all those D class cars you have to overtake. Turn around and drive the wrong way, build up some speed and crash into a few of them. Notice the sound effects.
I can't decide whether they're good or bad. I think when you hit them and the music and ambient noise fading away for a brief moment is a nice touch but I'm not sure whether the sounds of the collisions are incredibly over the top or not. Try it out someone.
