Hello, I just recently bought xbox 360 and some shooting games, Army of Two and Halo 3.

Army of Two was easy enough cuz you just hide, then target slowly and kill, but then I tried Halo 3, and you have to move, jump and what not WHILE targeting and you have to do it fast as the mobs kill you really fast too.

So my question is do you guys have any tips for me to learn how to play fps games with a controller? I have always been a keyboard and mouse guy, so im pretty bad with the controller, I try turning left/right to get that one enemy that is far away, and either the target will just pass the guy super fast, or will go slowly towards the enemy who can in the meanwhile take a cup of tea and get the hell out of my sight.

I have tried different sensetivity and I figured out that if you press the stick alot to the right it will spin super fast, and if you gently push it it will go slow, do I just have to get the hang of it by practicing alot?

Im pretty competitive normally, but I feel so frustrated with the inability to play efficiently that I kinda regret at all buying the fps games.

Please help with any tips you might have!

keep the sensetivity and everything on default...all you need is practice, so keep on playing and you'll be able to play FPS games with no problem :)

It just takes time. Try doing the campagin mode on the easiest difficulty to get a hang of the controls and generally just leave the sensitivty for now on its default settings. Just takes time.

time is one thing that can help, but constant playing (not constant consant) but significant chunks of time to wrap your head around it are good. As you play try to just focus on turning initially, find a sensitivity setting that feels right, then lower it by 2. So if you feel good wth 5, turn it down 3, the slower speed will help you orientate yourslef more easily. Start moving as you aim, learn to walk staight while looking to the sides quickly.

Don't add jumping or starfing or anything, until your real comfortable with moving and aiming. Before you do anything competitively, learn to walk straight while spinning around, then learn to spin in the air whilejumping forward.I've playe with lots of people who couldn't get the hang of controller FPS controls, I just taught them to aim, move, spin and they were adequate. Also learn to use the left stick for hair-thin aiming, don't jerk the right stick when you want precision.

I was a mouse/keyboard guy until I played Halo: Combat Evolved on original Xbox. Now I'm proficient with either control scheme. Like everyone else said, it just takes lots of practice. When I went to mouse/keyboard from just keyboard, that felt weird too.

Try this: Buy Unreal III. Play the bots on the easiest setting, until you can kick their ***es. Then bump them up a notch, and play until you can beat them at that level. So on and so on.

Hmm...or play the heck out of Halo on easy, I guess.

Auto aim is my worse enemy on most console shooters.

Just keep playing, you'll get used to it. It's just as easy as a mouse and keyboard when you do. Also, in Halo 3 I recently changed the controls so the melee and reload/pick up/enter/exit button are switched and the jump and switch grenade button are switched. So I'm able to melee with the right bumper and jump with the left, it would probably make things easier for you when you are getting used to the controller. I just like the easier way to melee.
