Last night I decided to check out the multiplayer for GTA.... It comes with a free XBL Gold membership so why not right? It was actually pretty damn fun. Not only the gameplay, but the community were fairly amusing and helpful for the most part. For a moment I thought, maybe due to the age limit...It would be awhile until the game was invaded by the kiddies. I decided to play some multiplayer again tonight, and everything changed. Before I reach the lobby I hear high pitch squeeling voices, people making dumb sexual remarks...ect ect (You know what I'm talking about. The reason why I didn't have a gold membership before was exactly this reason. Playing multiplayer games via XBL can be an awesome experience, but most of the time it just gives you a headache.

I know what you're going to say.... "There's a mute button". Sure, but what if I'm lucky enough to hit a server with a good community once in awhile? How would I be able to tell when to turn off mute and on again? I realize there are clans and there's the whole "friend" feature.... However I just don't play my X-Box enough to take advantage of it. Lets put it this way..... GTA 4 was the first game I've played this year on my X-Box. Last year I put down 50hrs of gameplay total, maybe a little less. No clan is going to want somebody who plays so little.

Am I just screwed? Is there a way for me to play on XBL very seldom and still have a good experience with the community?

These are two sites you need to sign up for. Their all adult gamers and if you act like an idiot they boot you out and you don't get to play with them anymore.

I do know what you mean. I have never purchased Xbox Live but have had 3 Months free membership. The whole time you get very immature players acting aggressive towards you. The best thing to do is to not react. Let's look at an example:

n00b182: omg ur retarrted get sum pubbes

SuperBeast: I am not retarded in any way. I have not done anything wrong to you so please do not provoke an argument.

If he continues to harass you, report him. The best thing to do is just go into a lobby and start some light conversation.

"Hey, what's up, guys?" is efficient enough. I hope I helped.

I don't have much problem like that anymore, hosts will boot someone for acting ignorant like that most of the time, and if its the host doing so just find another room. You just need to find some friends, submit feedback and prefer certain players so that game searches will revolve around them.

You have to understand and recognise gaming culture. You also have to just learn to accept it if you want to play. If you can't, I'd suggest moving to the PC platform as it's not mainstream and you're probably looking at a different demographic.

That is probably my best shot unless I decide to put some *real* time into XBL and join a clan or something. However even that seems like it would be difficult. A lot of the times numerous mic/speaker icons light up at the same time and it's hard to tell which is the one you don't want to hear. On a bit of a side note with that.... Sometimes my mic icon lights up even when I have it switched to off. Kind of strange.

Well.....I'm about 99% PC gamer, so perhaps it's just because I'm not used to playing with these types of people. I also tend to stick games that attract older audiences (WWII Online, America's Army, Operation Flashpoint/Armed Assult).

that happens sometimes. u want to mute someone but 8 mics are lit up. but if u wait a lil u will be able to tell who it is. and if not u will be able to narrow it down to 2-4 ppl. just mute one by one and if its not the first person, unmute them, move on to the next. takes 2 minutes tops.

its ur best bet to just mute annoying people. dont let them ruin XBL for u. playing online is great
