So, I am in Wal-Mart around 7am Friday morning checking out games for my system when I walk by the Xbox 360 section and notice the console in the case is proudly displaying the good 'ol RROD.

About this time a lady comes over to ask if I have found everything okay and need any help. I said no, I was just enjoying the blinking cry for help from the deceased 360 in the case, when she suddenly said, yeah I have to swap that out before the crowd starts to pick up. She pulls a 360 (brand new in the box mind you) from behind her counter to replace it with.

I watch her slowly remove the broken one, and replace it with the new one. She gets it hooked up, turns it on, plops in what I assume is a demo disc or something that runs all day long, who knows. So, I go about my business looking at games for my system, and when finished, walk back down the aisle by the newly replaced 360 and what do you suppose I see?

You guessed it... This 10 minute old 360 was proudly blinking 3 red rings of glory. The bottom line is, MS has NOT, nor will ever fix this problem without a total re-haul of the internal design. For shame MS, for shame.

That's crazy. Not hard to beleive though. It's not good for a system to be on all day.

That is funny, i will love myu 360 for as long as it is alive and MS gives me free ones, but I have had my launch console not give me one issue, other than random disk read errors when I had the thing laterally positioned. So, i dunno guess I am lucky :D:D

I've also seen an broken display 360 in a store. It had E79, not RROD. I'm not surprised that those display360 break if you look at the plastic boxes they keep them running in for 9 hours everyday.

Speaking of RROD, I had my first today. We had a powerout in the middle of my gaming and my 360 started blinking to me. I tested it afterwards and it worked. Hopefully it won't break down now. :(

well usually display 360s are kept in enclosed hard plastic cases so people wont move or touch the console. It probably heated up so quick and it got RRoD

I'm guessing the replacement console was one that had the RROD at that store before. They probably put it behind the counter hoping that it will work again after a few days.

oh my god.

my Wal-Mart was like that, too!

i went up to the guy at the counter and asked him if he knew.

he said he did, and said that they just send it back and get a new one.

they must not realize that it probably just gets over heated in that glass.

just turn it off for a few hours for it to cool off and it should be able to work perfectly, right?

thats one reson RoDD happens...

overheating.

If the power goes out the 360 always shows the 3 red lights. Think of it as the good RROD:P

Well if they put them in the displays that surround the 360 in glass/plastic, of course they are going to overheat due to no ventilation. :?

Meh. I like my story better:

I rented a game and it had a sticker from Hollywood Video on it (where I rented it from). Plop the disc in, and within the first 5 minutes the sticker comes off inside my console! :O

Didn't RRoD, and it's a completely different type of story. But I like mine more. Probably cause it happened to me though

The same thing happened to a GameStop near me. A few months ago, I saw that a local GameStop's demo 360 got the RRoD, and low and behold, that same GameStop still has the RRoD. It might be the same one, but they said they had it replaced already.
