Game designers just don't get it.

What's the deal with the poor quality of many XBOX 360 games? Tenchu Z looks horrible, that new zombies game must be a mess, and the list can go on and on. The developers spend all of their time and money on these games, and what we get is more crap. It just amazes me that most companies don't realize that gameplay is the most important thing in any game. I know it can be hard to follow through on a great idea, but there are more crappy games than good ones.

One game every developer should play is Earth Defense Force 2017. I know there are people out there that can't stand this game, but there are quite a few of us that absolutely love it. The graphics aren't great, your character looks boring, some of the physics and level designs are wonky, but the game is incredibly FUN. It probably took less money to make than any other 360 game, but it's better than most. I'm not saying every company needs to churn out budget games, but EDF 2017 is a great example of a game being really fun withouthaving much technical merit.

I agree completely. Game designers today for the most part aren't that great. Developers need to follow through on concepts, rather than cut corners. Some games don't even have great concepts to being with, and Tenchu Z is one of those games.

But the thing is, us consumers, still buy these rubbish games, so they think they are doing somthing right, take splinter cell for an example, they should of stopped at chaos theory.

Both those games and probably most of the ones you're thinking of (Bullet Witch is another) are ALL Japanese developed games. Obviously in Japan they are focussed on different play styles than we are here in the US. Give our developers (and the UK ones too) some credit - they have turned out some AMAZING games. Japan is severly lacking though.

You're right splinter cell comes out every year with the same crap and 1 new gamplay gimmick and idiots keep buying them. the metaal gear series sees very little releases and very spaced apart adding as many innovative things to the next installment. But i agree with whatthe other guy further up said, it makes it easier for consumers to pick out the good ones.
