I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for games that are good for small children who are just learning about game mechanics and developing hand coordination and such. My daughters are 4 & 5 1/2. I have Simpson's Hit & Run for XBOX which they play continuously, learning how to move about, to coordinate multiple buttons, etc. But, I am sick of hearing Homer's voice. So, suggestions for both XBOX and XBOX360? Keep in mind: 1) you don't have to think the whole game -- they never progress beyond first level in Simpsons, and are even still unable to complete the car missions. 2) Likewise, you don't have to think level completion: simply having things to do is enough. 3) dying is not good if it means re-starting: they would learn a lot from Mario style scrollers if they never died. But, dying complicates it too much. (Remember: they can't read, so getting bumped out into a menu is not good.) 4) As such, a game with an immortality code/hack would work 5) Having a world they can walk around and explore within which they can do things is optimum. -- recognize that learning to jump over something is on its own an accomplishment for someone just starting out. (The girls will play for hours on simpsons walking around kicking things for one gold at a time -- but hunting down a bug and killing it is crazy exciting achievement.) So, any suggestions? (P.S. I myself am not at all broadly familiar with games, so don't assume "Well, I'm sure he's thought of this, so I won't say that." I almost assuredly haven't.) (P.P.S. Don't worry so much about content: they're all about fighting the orcs.) A.

i would say give the lego games a try. i have lego star wars: the complete saga, and it's simple, funny and harmless but also loads of fun.

maybe give mini ninja's a try also, fun game and is pretty simple.

also there's a lot of xbl arcade games to try like pac man championship edition DX, galaga, dig dug etc...

a lot of demo's on xbl as well. dl them and try them and/or see what they like and can handle.

I'd totally go with the Lego games.  I let my 2 year old son play them.  Well, he tries to play, he just kind of pushes random buttons and runs into the wall for awhile.

Most racing games that may have some sort of time trial or allows you to keep going until you finish the race, as opposed to ending it after third place is decided.

That aside, some studies don't recommend allowing children to play games until they're a certain age because it can apparently hinder their development.  And yet other studies say the opposite, that it can help development, especially hand and eye coordination and reading comprehension.

Viva Pinata would be great, and Beautiful Katamari would be mindless fun too although that game can be challenging at certain parts.Â
