It's there for people to have fun with if they want to. In the same way that some people push to get to the top of the leaderboards of several games on the Xbox 360, some people push to get the highest Gamerscore, or to raise their Gamerscore by a certain increment in a certain amount of time. As long as they have fun, what's the harm?

I have a low gamerscore and no one ever made fun of me. I could careless about achievements but i don't hate them. Some people love them and that's alright just not my thing. If i ever heard someone make fun of my GS i'd just laugh at them and mute them. That's the lamest thing to make fun of someone about. Most games have easy achievements all you need to do is spend some extra time getting them.

umm.... i don't think i've ever heard of people making fun of those with low gamerscore. if anything, I think people make fun of the ones with a lot because they're just nerds with no life who force themselves to play crappy games for some more.

Some people are just different and thrive on getting achievements in games and life. They live for praise and without it they feel shameful.

i also play for fun, and i honestly don't care about the number of my GS. but since games have achievements, i like getting everything out of a game that i can, so i try and get them all.

And we all obviously have well lived lives if we spend all our time on Gamespot and Xbox Live. Really, watch what you say. I know people with high gamerscores who have lives myself included.

I love the achievements. Gives me something more to do then to just run through a game. I would never use my gamerscore to make anyone else feel smaller. If someone does then they are quite the loser.

why are trophies given out in sports? why do soldiers medals and badges for their accomplishments? its to show what you've accomplished and it gives a sense of completeness. when you get an achievement it will always be there.

i think its stupid too but im glad the 360 has them because a lot of people like them and its a selling point. really gamerscore just boils down to people grinding in hours to get absurd achievements for no reason at all. what i really hate though is the people who rent games for a week just to attempt and get the achievements and end up making online games where they tell their buddy "hey let me kill you 50 times without dying so i can get this achievement, then ill let you do it to me" thats just ridiculous and a waste of time. they ruin the online experience some time. i just play the games and if i get an achievement hey cool if not oh well. the only time where ive actually tried to get an achievement was the serial killer achievement on condemned 2 because if you had that people were like wow youre good and i felt cool but thats the only one really.

They add some lifespan to a game as well. Most people just rush through games in a matter of hours (which is fine). This way it may get you to enjoy the game more. If you've finish Gears of War on insane up til the last chapter. They might make you want to finish it. Rather than just give up and pretend you finished it etc etc. Maybe if there was a option to hide gamerscores? I like them as i feel i get more out of a game. I'll wanna go through it again and go to some other area i didn't go to the first time. Do play it in a different way etc etc. Sometimes i get bored, sometimes i end up enjoying it more. Like Ninja Gaiden 2. I wouldn't of gone through it again on a harder stting if it didn't have an achievement for doing so. And i would of missed out and traded it back in by now!

Having gamerscores are nice. Microsoft did something really smart with achievements and gamerscore. If it wasnt smart Sony wouldnt be trying to use it.

I love that it adds some replay value to games.(not counting gearsofwar seriously, that is just lame) More of achievments that have u do stuff you wouldnt do otherwise, not ones that just force u to the same thing for waay too many times.

Then there are people that buy games they dont like, just to play for achievement points. Thats when i think you are bordering on having no life.

I personally just view it as experience points. people with high gamerscores have more experience with games and such than someone with a lower gamerscore. you could basically ask people with a higher gamerscore for help. If someone has 1000/1000 in blue dragon while i have 85/1000 in blue dragon , which person would you ask for help? Plus it adds a lot of reply value to a game. a lot of gamers are completionists.

I agree totally. It does add replay value to the games. While playing my psp, and my playstation 2....I dont feel the same way about ending a game. I like having a gamer identity etc. its like a resume. I laughed at your comment about having games just to get the achievements. One of my friends sold me King Kong because he had to copies (go figure), I bought it because I heard that the achievements were easy. Oh well....I guess Im guilty of that.

When it comes to games I'm a completionist and like to see I've got everything I can out of a game. The side effect is my gamerscore gets a big boost with each new game I play as I tend to get 75% or more from each one.

I'd agree with one of the posters above about experience in games - if you want help or advice on a game, which of your friends are you going to ask - the one with 80/1000 or the one with 1000/1000?

Someone is a little immature... seriously i read some of the comments but dude gamerscore is for fun just to see how many achievments you get. If you dont like it ok but your immature because you have to complain about it online in forums to make yourself feel better... I dont have a high gamerscore its 438 but i dont care i dont try to get achievments 24/7 i just get them from various things and i think it is cool so if we want to get the easter eggs in the game we got something to shoot for I personally dont care really.

It's not there so people can make fun of others' score, people would find other reasons cause they are a-holes. I like the gamerscore system, I usually try to get a good majority of the points, but i don't stress over 1k'ing every game, I try to get attainable but difficult achievements for myself, gives me a nice goal to look forward to. ex - 800 in NG2, cause I'm not bothering with the higher difficulties :)

I enjoy the gamerscore, and achievements. It gives me more of a reason to re-play a game.
