Personally, I'm sticking with CoD4 because 4 new maps are coming out in the spring and Halo 3 is always great because I have plenty of cousins and friends who play with me, plus the downloadable maps should be public, so we can finally play them on ranked matches.
Now if you want to get another great shooter there is Rainbow Six Vegas 2, however, DO NOT expect what you do in CoD4 or Halo 3. If you're going to run around like a mad man, jumping into cover, coming out, then shooting, just give up. I've never played it but I've heard it's extremly tatical and it's very slow paced compared to games like CoD4.
EDIT: (In reference to the previous poster) Dude, Assassin's Creed is a fun game indeed, but it gets SO REPETITIVE. It's rediculous. The only thing driving me to finish the game is the achievements because I'm a gamerscore freak.
