there were less crappy games no one plays. theres hundreds of games being made each years but how many are that good and will last you more thenĀ 20 hours before youre bored of it, 10-15 ?

the thing is theres too many video game makers and they just want to make their product to sell it as fast as possible. if we eliminate the crapfest games, that would mean more ppl would buy the same games and the developpers would be able to sell it at a lower price because they would make the same amount of money.

thats just my thoughts on the subject

I think it is not quite so easy. I believe it is those "welfare quality" games that make the companies a good portion of thier money. Short developement = lower developement cost = welfare game.

I would think those cheap budget games would saturate the market and offer marginal competition to the big release games, but I dont think they make such a huge impact on prices.

It should not be surprising however, that video game prices are on a rise. The bulk cost of the games in 1985 were probably from production, since it was such a "new" tech. These days a lot of the costs come from game development, which is a good thing because that should equal better quality games.Ā

Actually, games today are about $10 - 30 dollars cheaper than they were back in the late 80's/early 90's. Adjust that for inflation and you could have been spending upwards of $150 on a single game.

You don't understand that it is these worse games with licenses that give devs the money to invest in these big projects. If Ubisoft didn't sell 300'000 copies of Happy Feet or Cras or whatever, they couldn't afford to invest so much in thir premier Tom Clancy franchises or original Ip such as Assassin's Creed. If every dev company did what you wanted, we'd see around 20-30 games releasd each other. And these blockbuster games, even if cheaper, are not going to sell enough to reap back investment and give substantial profits to go into the next project. The industry would be ruined in so many ways, so your idea is pretty useless.

I think companies should make different games even if they are bad, to let the gamers see which games are the best

Well, this is why we don't want Sony and Nintendo to fail miserably. If they die out, Microsoft will be free to make game prices as high as they want since they practically monopolize the market.

Games would also cost a whole lot less if you bought a year after initial release. Most of the year-olds sell at around $25-$30 a pop.

Yeah, but if you wait a year to buy a game, most of them won't have anyone playing the multiplayer anymore.

Thats dead right, MS will take any chance they can to put a strangle hold on any market they can, and this is why its so important the PS3 wins.

Oh come on. I still find plenty of people to play original XBox Doom 3 online (which was never very popular), never mind all those 360 release games (many of which were very good). That said, the most popular games won't drop in price as fast... so you'll still want a few recent releases every now and then.

Wins what? The homecoming at prom night? And what constitutes "winning"? The real question is: Did you buy the right system for your needs? If yes, then be happy and enjoy!

You won't find a whole lot of people playing DooM 3, I've tried and I can only find around four or five different games. Now compare the ten or twenty people who still play the game online to the amount of people who own the game. :o

Oh god, I don't want the PS3 to win. No, I'm not an Xbox fanboy... I just don't want the hordes of PS3 fanboys to flood to these forums and spam us all to death. O_o

It doesn't matter how many bad games are released, because people will still say that (insert recently released popular game) is crap, and (insert similar but less popular game here) is so much better. I mean, there are a lot of people on these boards who will insist that Gears of War is a crap game. It's not, but they still place it in the same category as games like Bomberman: Act Zero.

That's because humanity has devolved. We are all becoming dumber every day, and all of the smart ones are getting dumber due to dumb ones eating their brain cells.

On a side note, Gamespot's spell check doesn't think doesn't is a word.

Some games back in the 80s cost $80. That's mainly because they didn't sell 10s of millions of consoles like they do now. Games are much cheaper now then they used to be. They are just a little more expensive than in recent history.
