Do i need to already have a surround sound system for a surround sound system to work in my headset? EX: if i buy turtle beaches and i dont have surround sound already will i need to buy a surround sound system? Or is the headset surround sound by itself? Also what kind of gaming headset should i get?franticdropthe turtle beach is surround sound in itself. Astro A40s are the best gaming headset you can get, if not, most turtle beach headsets sound pretty good
i was thinking turtle beach dx 11'sfranticdropOh, well I don't think those are surround sound, but just stereo headphones, meaning only left and right. And you don't need to have an actual surround sound system to have it in headphones, although some receivers do have Dolby headphone, which does the same thing as the astro mix amp. It just sends a surround sound signal to the headphones, turning virtually any pair of headphones into surround sound headphones, but still the better the headphones, the better sound quality.
why not the astro A30 over the A40? you can take it anywhere and it's 1/3 the weight and cheaper and just as good quality wise (at least I think, really I don't know)

They should be suround sound. There isnt a turtle beach headset that is not suround sound that i know of. I have the x 1s. from my understanding the x 11s are desent but have certain limitations when it comes to volume control. also the lower priced turtle beaches break pretty easy. you also need to take into consideration if you want wirless or not. wired turtle beaches plug into a usb slot on the xbox. I have a set up were im only about 5 feet away from my monitor so its not a problem but in a large room you will have a wire going across the floor.

They're only stereo sound. Like someone else said, I think the only turtle beach headphones that offer virtual surround sound are the x41s.[QUOTE="franticdrop"]Do i need to already have a surround sound system for a surround sound system to work in my headset? Any surround headset is still theoretical. It works to a degree but surround sound headsets are an oxymoron. I have one on my PC and it's great, don't get me wrong, but it's not really the same as a real surround sound.

i have to agree, but thats what the label says haha sure you could have 5 different speakers in the headset, but its like surround sound lite :Pthe turtle beach is surround sound in itself. sure, a good set of surround sound speakers will always be better as far as soundstaging, but i have a pair of akg k601 headphones and i prefer them with the astro mixamp over my surround sound system. plus, you cant always use the surround sound system to its full potential late at night ;)

This will give you a awesome awesome headset, that is very light, won't break, has an extended mic and a very clear strong mic at that. I can take my headset off go across the roo mand talk and everyone understands every word i say. It also had chat boost which will adjust chat volume based on your game volume.
Now take that and add the 5.1 surround sound DSS and you just got awesome!
Ive had this combo now for about half a year and i would never trade it for anything else. Just be read to cash out about $150 for both.
On another note it does have the hiss when no sound is being played, but i rarely even notice it cause well how many times do you play a game and hear nothing? Minor setback, but even when i do hear it it does not bother me. Also you got enough cord to go make a sandwich in the kitchen, take a dump in the outhouse outside, and still get back to your game without taking off the headset which causes a lot of tangled cords. Be careful or you'll have a mess.

They're only stereo sound. Like someone else said, I think the only turtle beach headphones that offer virtual surround sound are the x41s.I sea, I wasnt thinking of the sound quality of as being surroundsound. I was just considering the x11s and x1s surround sound because they do give off good audio.
if you're serious about wanting a good pair of headphones for gaming and plan on using them for quite a while, the best way to go is really the a40 mixamp and a nice pair of stereo headphones like the audio technica ad700. both of those together will be around 200$ after its all said and done, thats why i suggest that setup only if you really plan on using them quite a bit. another plus in getting a good pair of stereo headphones instead of a gaming headset is that you can use them for music listening too. the ad700s work straight out of your ipod and will soundmiles better than any headset made for gaming.i use my a40 mixamp with a pair of akg k601 headphones, and the match is great. i can hear every noise incall of duty and can tell exactly where its coming from.ive caught many people trying to sneak up behind me simply from hearing the sound of them switching guns lol. on the other hand, if you just want a headset just to try out and only use every now and then, then you might not want to shell out that much money.
my x11's are coming in tomo.. i will tell you how they work out and everything.. im sure i wont need surround sound but we will just have to see

The lower ****headsets are Stereo Sound witch isnt bad. I have the Ear force x1. I dont think there on this list but they resemble the ear force X11. they work well but if you are looking for surround sound here is your list.
