Has anyone beat Gears 2 on Insane difficulty? The first battles where fine until I've reached the part where you ride the truck and get attack by mortars & reavers. I can shoot those mortars down but that reaver that comes on the left I can't seem to kill. Any tips or tricks?
I've completed it on insane...some tough bits but not that hard really...it also never really gets frustrating and the challenge is quite fun, I reccomend you do it in co-op though...for the reaver bits just shoot the driver.
Yes, I completed it on insane, too. Alone, not in co-op. There are indeed some very frustrating parts and the one you're speaking of was one of those for me. I only hat problems hitting all the mortars though and had to try about a dozen times. Then you just shoot the reaver down with the mounted gun. Shouldn't be that hard.
I did that part co-op... we didn't miss a single mortar.... I tried to do that part alone but my aim wasn't all that good apparently and I started to get pissed. Luckily one of my contacts was playing gears also and he agreed to help me through that part.
Just browsing the forums and noticed your a bit stuck, so I thought I would sign up to help you as I also found it really hard to get passed the reaver that attacks from the left. After failing about 20 times, I looked on the internet to get tips and I found out its possible to cool down the Turret weapon by holding the right trigger button, which allows you to shoot at a quicker rate. I don't know if you knew this already so apologies if it doesn't help. I found it really easy once I discovered this and was able to do it on my first go.

It's right bumper, not right trigger. Trigger fires, bumper cools down.
Just don't waste any of your mortar shots on the guys before the locusts with the mortars come out. I did it solo and not once did I use the troika.Hitchy9
I think he's talking about the part where you are still driving.
I am having the exact same problem. I can make it through the mortars, but the reaver always takes me out. I have take out the driver and the gunman, but every time I get destroyed.
get good with the turret on the truck. i used it to take out most of the mortars and i was already waiting for the reaver before it showed up. the trick is to keep your turret concentrated on the reaver at all times (make sure you don't overheat your gun).
I just got past that part yesterday. It took some trial and error. That first mortar is a pain, coming in at such a curveball angle. So far I would say that Gears 2 insane is harder than Gears 1 insane pre-RAAM but I'm doubting/hoping that nothing in Gears 2 insane will be as hard as RAAM insane.

Yeah, you're right... Since Gears 1 took a while to get used to and I did my first play through on Hardcore, I ended up dying less in my second play through on Insane... except for Raam. That was a real pain in the a$$.
Try playing in co-op with one of your friends being on casual. Personally I didnt have that luxery, despite originally planning to do that. Instead my co-op buddy was on hardcore on my insane run through. Regardless, I still had him as the gunner during that part because he was on a lower difficulty. So if you've got a friend who's willing, have em play on casual.

I never had any problems with that part while on insane, but I am glad you have got past it. Good luck on getting through the rest of the game, there are some very frustrating moments to go. :P

Not completed it yet, but I know the bit you mean. You have got to start shooting the reaver that appears to your left as soon as you see it through the trees. It helps if you shoot the driver and the gunner off fairly early, but the problem is with it hitting the Derrick. Like others on this thread I reccommend playing it on Co-op.
I'm glad I'm not the only one stuck here. I started co-op with a friend last night and we gave up with that reaver part. Will have to try the cool down thing tonight. Cheers for the tips.
What you need is someone to play as Marcus on casual difficulty (the weak cannon is better than a weak truck, I got 5-shot killed when I tried to do it as Marcus.) Have them host a game, and invite you. Set your difficulty to insane, have them set theirs to casual, and you're all set.

HAHHA! thats exactly what happened to me...but i managed to beat that part after 4111824284202423841042 tries...it got frustrating but it was fun after beating that part...
the key is to aim and shoot a little before it hits..as in shoot where they are about to hit not directly at it..like if they were coming from the left....aim just a bit to the right of where u see it...so itll pass right ur crosshair.Â
also its true what these peoplehave said...its TONS More fun and funnier when you have a friend who plays with you...definitely worth my money laughing and having fun with a friend..such as opening doors at the same time...one driving..one shooting...pretty awesome...

Some people actually want to beat it on insane and not cheat their way around it.
Yeah i got to that part and the reaver kept killing me so i skipped that it to come back to it later.I'm near Act 4 now and have gotten alot better can't wait till i get xbox live oh and i didn't know you could cool down the turret thanks for the tip dude.
Oh my god, that part was hell for me. I am beating by myself on Insane as well and i would recommend that you use the Lancer on that part over the Mulcher. That is pretty much all i can tell you. Just keep trying to hit ALL the mortars with lancer and then shoot the drivers on the Reaver as fast as possible. This part was satan, but once you get it it gets easier.
i'm like1/4th of, mayb more of, the way through. I'm dreading doing the lvl w/ the wretched at the abandoned COG place. Not my favorite lvl. I know i've beat all of act 1, 4 or 5 chaoters on act 2 and the last 2 chapters on act 5.

Then, before reaching the final checkpoint on any given chapter, switch the difficulty over from Casual to Insane. Then, finish the chapter. The game will record that you've completed that particular chapter on Insane Difficulty, even though you played a vast majority of the chapter on Casual Difficulty.

im stuck there 2.. on insane.. when i pass the mortar rain , this reaver comes.. and i cant kill him after 3 times he hits the left side.. O_O i mean, i tried with the turnet and without it.. nothing works.
I failed a couple times on that as well. The problem for me was I had set my aiming sensitivity to the lowest possible, because that's the most comfortable for me during regular firefights. Try increasing the aiming sensitivity just for that to hit the mortars and quickly move over to the reavers. Also if you can play on co-op. 1: it's wayy more fun and 2: any stray mortars you miss your team mate can attempt to get with their lancer and the extra firepower helps take down those reavers. I've finishied it in co-op and solo. If I had to give you a tip, play it on co-op if you are having trouble beating it.
