Gears 3 Beta - Big Upgrade? or Disappointment?

Ok, let me start off by saying this. Just by the sheer fact that they added a deathmatch mode, and some really badass new weapons.... I am in love. I used to NEVER play the online modes of Gears, I just didnt like the fact that you only had one life per "match". However, I LOVED hoarde mode. this really fixes things, and keeps you in the action, on top of having some interesting and creative new weapons, that add new tactics to the core gameplay. I know that their scoring system is JACKED UP though, because they seem to have mixed up how downs and kills should work. hopefully they listen to the community. but overall, its very satisfying to play, a Lot of fun, and is only in the BETA stages, so I am sure that the complete game will offer a ton of awesome content. hopefully Multiplayer character customization, that would be nice, and hopefully some kind of "unlocking" system for leveling up. What are your thoughts? myself not being a hardcore multiplayer contestant on any of the previous games, i would like to hear from some of the veterans that played the last 2 consistently. ChEERs.

I find it to be a big improvement. I haven't played a single laggy match. All the weapons seemed to be balanced out and the executions are amazing.

The game is so so. It is fun for awhile but then it just goes back to the same old shotgun battles which are extremely boring. I have played both great games that have no lag and unplayable games with ridiculous lag. Overall it is basically the same and I don't see myself buying it.

Big step up. I haven't had this much fun In a gears game since Gears 1. All the wepons seem to be well balanced because I don't see as many useless shotgun battles as before. People are using all the weapons at their disposal. Also the maps are well designed and I have not experienced any lag.

Its a huge step from Gears 2 (my least favorite of the two Gears games out).

It's fun. I have never really like the public matches, i suck at them for some reason, can never win a shotgun battle for the life of me. i see this as a fanboy game more than anything. i was excited for GOW2 but with this one I just have no excitement. Could be due to the fact Mass Effect 3 is releasing and a rumored Halo CE as well.... but that's just my opinion, don't hate me for it

It's amazing! I've played over 100 games in gears 3 and only once experienced lag, the weapons are all well balanced and the maps are great except for Trenches. It's so easy to spawn-trap/get spawn-trapped it's ridiculous. :?

I haven't played the beta yet, but as long as the core mechanics are the same and they add dedicated servers I will be one happy camper. I loved Gears 1 but the lag and glitches in Gears 2 made it unplayable for me.

I am loving it, the speed has been increased and the lag is not a factor anymore.

I have been playing for weeks and haven't heard anyone nor myself yell "Host Shotty" That right there is a Giant Leap Forward!

this is my first time playing a gears of war game but gow is an awful awful game. how this is deemed a classic i have no ideatheSteeeeels

Agreed on the sawed-off being a crutch. I love lancering down fools that just blindly run at me with the sawed-off...

So far I've enojyed the game and find it a great step forward than GOW2. However I do think they need to reduce the range of the shotgun (gnasher). There are times when its range is ridiculously too long.

Way better than GoW2, although I'm annoyed by some of the things people are doing. For instance, how some people just rubberband their controllers to stay in the match without doing anything. Or the actual playing is sitting their, wiggling the joystick, and still doing nothing. I must've played with at least 10 people yesterday where that happened. It's so annoying when you don't have a full team, and I wish the time required to kick idles/game boosters was shortened.Andrn

From what I've seen, GoW1 fans love 3 and GoW2 fans hate 3. I was a GoW1 fan, but the lag and glitches ruined it. However, 3 seems to be the game GoW1 multiplayer should have been and I'm thankful to finally see it come to fruition.

I feel like it is the same exact thing as gears 2, only tht they added better graphics and, cheaper way cheesear guns which are terrrible

i really thought this game was going to be great, but after playing for a week or two it's not so great. Epic games needs to stop trying to apeal to the cod and halo fans, this game is different for a reason and they keep trying to change the mechanics of the game. Things like the sawed off shotgun and retro lancer, with the incredibly stupid idea of stopping power (when you slow down when getting shot) takes a lot of the skilled required to play this game and gives it to unexperienced players. Experienced players will still do well, but what's the point of practicing and doing different tactics when new players can just run in with the sawed off and kill you with one shot? i guarantee that even if this game sells really well (which i doubt it will), people will only play it for a few weeks and never play again.

Hey, how are you, and thank all of you for your opinions, its good to hear them and share them with each other.

Now onto your question "letsplayer", it seems that many players are angered by the fact that you can "down" and enemy, and then someone else kill that player, getting the actual "kill" and more XP. anyone care to further this information? i could be off...

I think it is a huge improvement over Gears of War 2. Coming from a person that has sunk in several hours into Gears 2, I am very happy. The game is very balanced and, of course, the dedicated servers worked wonders for the game. In Gears 2, the host advantage was huge! I mean a really good Gears player with host advatage could turn the tide of the match by him/herself. Now, there are no more excuses. Everyone can be on even ground. I also like the fact that the assault rifles are more viable in Gears 3. In Gears of War 2, most of my kills were from the shotgun. Even though that is still the case in the beta, I feel like it is easier to get kills with say, the Hammerburst. Overall, the beta has left a great impression on me.

If you preorder Gears 3 do you still get the beta and the flaming lancer, etc?
