Gears scores Higher than Halo on GS's Rating System. WTF? Is gears actually a better game or does Gamespot hold Halo to a higher standard than a new title. Which do you find better, gears or halo 3? (Probably a stupid question, but you'd be suprised :))

Gears of War IS better then Halo 3. But that's not saying much. Halo is not that great of a game. I am one of the sucker's who fell for the hype. Played it for a few hours. And didn't like it at all. Halo is a mediocre first person shooter at best. Story is mediocre. Graphics... decent. Multiplayer...mediocre. Bioshock, Gears of War, and the call of duties are all more worthy of the Halo fanbase in my opinion. But again in answer Gears is better (don't like it's multiplayer either though)
IMO it all depends on what kind of FPS you like.I mean if you like running in and shooting people and blowing things up with grenades then Halo's your game.If you like being tactical and the duck and cover tactic then GeOW is the game for you.I personally like GeOWs gameplay a little better but when it came to the storyline I couldnt really get into it.Not saying it was bad though.Now multiplayer wise I like GeOW because you need to work as a good team if you wanna win but like I said it all depends on what you like.
Personally I like Gears more because it was different and very fun! I love the multiplayer and the story was solid. Halo 3 is a lot more fun than I expected, but to me, it's still not as good as Gears.
both are great, if you play one and not the other you are missing out on awesomeness, whichever way you go. you could even put gears in a different category since it is 3rd person, not technically an FPS, so gears is the pest TPS, halo1-3 are the best FPS'. (this ofcoarse not including the godlike goldeneye 64 which pwns them all, perfect dark 64 at a close 2nd)
I would have to say geows. I want to like halo multiplayer, its just not happening , no cover you get shot out of no where all the time. I think geows feels like it takes more skill and halo is a mindless shooter. I never played halo 2 multi player and was always in the top 6 or so in kills. IN geows if you suck you will be sitting a zero the whole time unless you get a lucky chainsaw

That is true. Gears does seem to take a lot more effort and skill to be good. You can't just run around in the open and jump in the air and shoot down at people to get kills. It takes more stradegy. Halo 3 is good and obviously takes skill but not as much as Gears.
I don't think one can really be better than the other. They're different games, made by different people, with their own pro's and con's...but I guess if I absolutely had to satisfy the fanboys need for supremacy I'd probably say I like Gears more :roll:

I would say that Gears is a good game all around, but I can't because of its flaws. Its single player aspect is excellent, but the single player is so short that you feel violated when you finish it. The online portion is nothing compared to action of Halo, but that's just me.
ive only play gears twice. One time at two different friends houses. One i play single player and on multiplayer. Basically as soon as i played it i thought it was crap and didnt care for it. All it really has is the graphics IMO. The multiplayer basically the same.
Ive always liked halo, its the reason i bought my original xbox and 360. I think the single player is by far way better then gears, and multiplayer isnt slow, its fast paced and fun.
Everyone seems to think their opinion on anything is the end all these days so if one person says gears sucks or halo sucks because they don't like it then obviously it's not good :roll:
People shouldn't make threads like these cause people are really dumb and their memories don't go beyond the present. When Gears came out everyone was saying it's way better than Halo, when BioShock came out everyone said it was better than Halo and Gears, now everyone loves Halo again and thinks it's way better than GOW and BioShock. Everyone on these boards has a new favorite game of all-time every time a big new game comes out.
gears did not have an original story at all. aliens coming out on another planet and you battling them back into the planet. yet, like gs said, it was a techincal achievment and it was awesome playing online with such great graphics. i get my @$$ handed to me in gears though.
i have more fun with halo3.
but like some other people, halo 3 is a very hyped game. i think COD4 online will blow it out of the water for funness factor.

lol just cause you're not good on Halo doesn't mean you have to bash it. Halo and Gears are both good games but just cause you get your butt handed to you by Halo veterans doesn't mean you have to cry about it.
I prefer the controller layout of Gow much more than Halo. The active reload feature is one of the best things in gaming. it worked so well except the active reload on the sniper rifle.
I have to say I am more impressed with Halo 3 than I thought I would be.
I hate to compare games - every game plays different. Imo its actually easier to compare Gear to rainbow six than it is to compare to Halo. Halo is a fast frantic shooter and gears is a slower paced, more tactical shooter.
I guess I'd probably say Gears single player and halo 3 multi player
Gears certainly wasn't the first shooting game with a cover system but it did it right, which is all that matters every aspect of gears was done right. Yes it may of been short but to me halo 3 wasn't that much longer. I am not a big fan of the Halo games to me they are all the same and i felt that Halo 3 had exactly the same game-play as the others just with some new cool grenades, weapons and fun vehicles (gotta love that mongoose).
Gears is probably better because of game-play and i personally think it looks alot better and has a really war torn feel about it, halo feels light hearted and tame compared to the gritty dirty environment's players encounter within Gears.
I think this does go down to personal opinion like most topics similar to these.

More skill? Are you serious? In Gears, you do the same think, except you don't jump. You just blow the shotgun at each other. In THEORY Gears would take more skill, but it's generally not played the way it's supposed to be and that's the main reason I just gave up on it.

a couple reasons Halo 3 is better than GoW... you can't deny that 4 player co-op is ridiculously fun and addictive. The "meta" game where you can keep score of how well you and yours friends are doing on co-op, that way you can prove to them that you reallyare better. The replay feature is one of the COOLEST things ever. I mean how else are you gonna show your friends how bada$$ that no-scope headshot was. Amazing grenade stick? yeah...save it and show it to your friends.
Gears was a bit overrated. Sure, it is a great game, the graphics are brilliant and the gameplay is great, but the story was way too short, and the multiplayer not the best.. Halo 3 is living up to my expectations so far. It's a worthy sequal. I have yet to finish it though, and was interrupted last night to play some Online, which is much like the beta, but they improved on that.

you sir, have no idea what your talking about, i feel sorry for you, your probably one of those people who looks at everything negativley in life...
and to answer the question, i cannot say because i havn't played halo 3, but i think i'll like them both in different ways, i can't compare them, they are two awesome games
