Since the past year or so I have noticed that random times when a pencil is rolling off a table in the corner of my eye or someone accidentally knocks something over and its falling, my hand just comes out and grabs or catches it. This also applies to things coming at me, I can really easily dodge or catch them.

Since playing gears online a substantial amount I have noticed this improvement in reflexes. I have started participating in certain *cough*activities*cough* that doctors and parents will tell you make you "slower". But at the same time, my reflexes have gotten noticeably better. I used to be really tense and slow playing gears online, but now i jumpa around and am constantly jittery and moving, even when reloading. It just feels natural to me. And I always seem to react before something important happens just by looking at whats before me.

Has anyone else noticed a positive change in reflexes after playing Gears online, or any other game for that matter?

I can see guitar hero doing that, but not a game like Gears.. You must have super monkey genes or something.

Strange. But studies have shown that games actually inhance your visual perception of things and also helps improve your hand-eye coordination. Granted, you're not gonna be superman like you acted like you were, but who knows.

I'd have to agree with the original poster, where video games increase your reflexes. Some games more than others. FPS and driving games have sharpened my reflexes.

I was driving, and a call came through the radio. I had to take my eyes off the road for no more than a few seconds, when I looked back at the road, WHOA, a stopped car infront of me. Without even thinking, I jammed on the breaks and came within a foot of the stopped car. After my heart stopped vibrating, the first thing I thought of is, I should have hit that car.

There was no time to "react" in the normal fashion, just reflexes kicking into play here. I 100% attribute this 1 close call I had with an almost car wreak, saved becausemy heightned refelexes from video games.

I'm not saying video games will turn you into superman, but agree they definently increased my reflexes.

Stay safe guys

I BELIEVE YOU!!!! not like these other non believers .... y cant that b possible, especially with this HD era ... when u play a game where people/creatures r coming at u from all directions, and in HIGH DEF lol, u have to b sharp and quick on ur toes ... R6V Online had the same inpact on me, not as much as u i quess lol but yeah ... and my baseball skills improved from playing MLB 2K7 ... for some reason i can just c the ball better itz crazy,i think itz the game plus my natural baseballability being that I'm Dominican and all itz a genetic thing :P... Now even though i believe u, being that itz had such a huge and drastic impact as u discribe it, it COULD b a combination of Gears and other recreational*cough* activities *cough, cough* lol y'know ?

ONE!!!

Average human reaction time is 3/4s of a second. Two sports that have noticable benefits to increasing average human reaction time are martial arts and tennis. So far, video games have not been proven to increase reaction time.

gears sorta has the same effect on me because when i used to get startled by stuff in real life like knockin something over i now react like in the game at first i used to freeze up when someone would come out of nowhere now i instinctively know that you have to react quickly or your ******.

I don't think its your reflexes I think its your ability to play Gears that has improved. Although I have heard that its been proven that playing games like Gears of War and Halo can improve eyesight.... being able to find certain objects quickly in a room.

I think there is some truth in this. After you have trained your brain to react faster to what your eyes see, the reflexes in your hands could be faster than someone who doesn't practice hand - eye cooridnation.
